I would like to thank all the wonderful Find A Grave members that have given their time to take photos and adding the memorials. From your kindness I have found many of my family members.|

|Deborah Cook||RE: Frank Mason Brown|
When Frank Mason Brown was a Senator in California he introduced the bill into Congress to allow construction of the Amador Central Railroad. That was in 1878. Even back then it was required that government approve projects such as this and it was sometimes difficult to gain support from government officials for small railroads. But Frank took up the banner and it was approved. Unfortunately, the railroad was not built until 1904 so he did not live to see his efforts come to fruition.
I am writing a book on passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1875. Your great-great-grandfather was heavily involved in that movement as a member of the House Judiciary Committee, 43rd Congress. In fact, he took some critical decisions that influenced the passage of Civil Rights legislation at that time. I have never been able to find a photograph of Congressman Ward from the 1870s. Do you have one? If, by any chance, there are letters or papers in your family's possession relating to political events in 1873 to 1875, I would be extremely grateful if you could allow me and my colleagues to see them.
