I started doing genealogy in 1996, when my husband's family passed around old photos and other information at a family reunion. I have been hooked every since!|
I am not sure how I stumbled onto the Findagrave site, but when I saw what they were doing, I decided to start putting on-line the information that I have. Then I realized the potential of this site, by housing grave stones before cemeteries could be destroyed by moving or vandals, I started driving to area cemeteries and copying headstone information.
Instead of creating memorial pages, I am concentrating on getting the "85 Million" memorials linked together. Don't get me wrong, I still make memorial pages as well as photograph cemeteries, however, my main interest right now is getting families linked together.
Please do not duplicate memorials! It makes it difficult to link families together and/or complete cemeteries when there are duplications. First do a search of the whole website AND then if you know the cemetery, search the cemetery as well...Thank you for your consideration.
Please make note: It is NOT a "numbers" game to me, I do this to honor the deceased! I spend upwards of 10+ hours a day on the computer working on findagrave.com. It does not matter who has the memorial page, if I can add information, I send it to the creator, if it is a relative and I have a photo, I add it to the memorial page...what is important here is NOT that I have maintenance of a relative's memorial page, it is that someone cared enough to go out and photograph that memorial so that I and future generations can see the headstone!
Not to upset or belittle anyone, but I WILL ONLY MAKE PERMANENT TRANSFERS WITHIN THE GUIDELINES OF FINDAGRAVE.COM that being 4 GENERATIONS: Spouses, Parents, Brothers and Sisters, Children, Grand-children, Grandparents, and Great-grandparents. Please use the "EDIT" tab to ask for EACH transfer. PLEASE STATE YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO THE DECEASED and your member id#, without these, your request will be deleted.
For EXTENDED FAMILY MEMBERS or all other requests, I will gladly make additions, corrections or links. PLEASE USE the "EDIT" TAB on the upper right-hand corner of the memorial to send the information. This sends me a direct link to the memorial page required to make the changes. I delete all requests left on my "bio" page or sent to me in a e-mail. Don't forget to send the memorial numbers for links.
If you are seeking transfer to "have all my family together" ~ use the virtual cemetery button. Then all of the memorials will be in the same "cemetery", and you can look at them daily.
Because others feel the same as I do about their hard work, I have also been working with others on "Teamwork Temporary Transfers" - see information below.
Please DO NOT leave biographical information and obituaries in a virtual flower. This is against findagrave.com policy...and the flower will be reported as "abused". As stated, I do make corrections when asked, as well as as try to give credit where credit is due.
Thanks to all of you who have sent additional information for the memorials.
"Teamwork Temporary Transfers" - I have started working with a few people on a project we are calling "Teamwork Temporary Transfers"...If we have a great deal of changes to be made to a memorial page or quite a bit of information to add to a bio section. I will request a transfer of the memorial page, make the updates and return the memorial page to the original creator. This involves TRUST. I will only request one or two memorials at a time. If you doesn't get transferred back...do not issue anymore memorial pages to anyone…its that simple. "Fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me!" Please, give it a try.
When you click on "Transfer Management" the instructions state: "This action is PERMANENT and can not be undone." This is misleading. The PERMANENT implies that it will be lost to you FOREVER. That is true only if it NEVER gets transferred back to your control. The other aspect of TEAMWORK TRANSFER is that the person who contributes the research can add their name in the bio or notes with an embedded link. Contributors who say they will add information that you send to them don't always credit their source. They don't want others taking credit for the photos they post, but they don't think twice about taking credit for other people's research and just pass it off as their own.
I have also joined Find a Grave Volunteers of Southern Indiana.
I am also the County Keeper for Hancock County, Indiana.

Thank you so much for getting a picture of my 3x Great Grandfather's headstone. That's awesome. I appreciate all your hard work you do for us all.

I have posted Ruth's obit to show she was born in Indianapolis, which is also what she told me and that Orvil Buzzards children both went by a different spelling for their last name. You can also see the different spelling on her brother's grave. Thank you.

Thank you soooo much for correcting Alice's maiden name. We don't know how the mistake occurred, but suspect it was on our end. Our computer connection comes and goes. Sorry. We appreciate your making the change. Thanks.

George Clinton Rose, born Dec. 24, 1887, son of James W. Rose and Rachel Brown, born in Wolfe Co., Ky. Married Emma Clark and had three children, Darley, named after Clinton's youngest brother who died about age 3, Luther, and James. Clinton died in 1950 and is buried in Eldorado, Preble County, Ohio.
Rachel Brown is the sister of my Great Grandfather Wm. Grant Brown. Clinton was the first cousin to my grandmother.
I have had problems getting some memorials transferred especially when the owner is deceased or not active.
I can't get Find A Grave to transfer any ownership. I'm told all corrections need to go thru "edit". That's fine if the owner is alive.
This is getting very frustrating. Any suggestions?

Hello, thanks for maintaining this memorial. Good job.
Would you transfer it to me please. Sarah is actually my g g g g gm and I would like to make some additions. But if you want to keep it, no problem.
Hello, did you forget to do Nancy?
