I think this "Find-a-Grave" website is wonderful, and I hope more people will add data to it. Hopefully my input will help someone out there.|
I so enjoy finding & visiting the old pioneer cemeteries, where the dates go back to the 1700-1800's.
I'll be more than happy to make corrections and/or add data, make relationship links, etc, but I am curtailing (not stopping) transferring memorials due to a growing misunderstanding of what Find-a-grave is all about.
Please DO NOT not leave me a message of "any kind" without leaving a way for me to get back to you. It makes no sense to do so - it is useless and it will be ignored.
Your "e-mail" must be present in your messages to me.
DO NOT ask for transfers without return contact information either.
I only transfer memorials according to Find-a-grave guidelines so check first before asking please.
TRANSFERS: Per Findagrave regulations:
Transfer requests should be for direct relatives within four generations. This would be your siblings, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. This DOES NOT include aunts, uncles and cousins.

I have a delemma. I am working for Lois Johnson of the Johnson County Gen Web. I am gleaning old obits and death announcements from the pre 1900 papers of Franklin, Johnson County. You added the memorial for Jacob in Acton Cemetery, Marion County, and I presume based on the photo of the headstone put his death date at 1889. However, I have his obit and he died in December of 1898. He had an original stone, and it appears that some family members erected a newer more modern stone some time ago, and it appears that the stone cutter transposed the date 1898 to 1889.Would you feel comfortable changing it to the correct date? The obituary is being typed and prepared and will be forwarded to you to add to the memorial if you would. I have been at this for many months now, and it isn't the first time that I have seen the wrong date or dates carved on the stone. Let me know what you are thinking on this.
Memorial# 20092005. Ruth, it's me again. I ran across another ancestor whose headstone information is wrong on Find A Grave. I contacted to contributor and she agreed (I'm a little sketchy on Find A Grave responsibilities). The death date should be 1849, not 1819. The memorial is a tad hard to read, but if you look closely, you can see the 1849 date.
I aint looking for errors. I just run across a few while researching and I think it's best to get them corrected.

Ruth.....I'm researching the Deskin line, and the grave site for Nelle Deskin (F-A-G #68684675) in Oakland Cemetery was never married, even though the page shows Herchell as her spouse and Harvey as her child. The death certificate shows her parents as Deskin and it is marked "Never Married". The dates on the marker and on the death certificate match, but this can't be Herchell's wife. Her name too was Nellie, but her maiden name was Cline (or Klein).

Thanks for all the loving work you do to keep the memory of our ancestors alive! I'm just wondering if you have any clues as to the maiden name of my 2x Great Grandmother, Sarah Beckley. Has the name Barker turned up in your research on her?
Thanks in advance,
Thank you for being so conscientious. I requested a few changes/ updates on my great grandmother --
Nevada Sue 'Vadie' Rogers...maiden name Anderson.
Thank you for your assistance. #121325008

Thank you for the transfer, Ruth. Did I ever tell you how much I appreciate all that you do, and what a great example you set for FindAGrave? You are detailed and willing to challenge me if I send you something that may be questionable, which has happened a couple of times. :) You have walked the cemeteries in Hancock County in a way only I wish that I could. You are an inspiration. Thank you. ~Elizabeth
Samuel Higgens/Higgins: I now have another theory as to the spelling of his LAST name (ENGRAVERS MISTAKE) most ALL records have the spelling HIGGINS except for Samuel & Rebecca's gravestone. Regardless I wish we could get the gravestone pic. back on the MEM. Sandy

Ruth, Thank you for all the pictures of this cemetery. I fear it would have been forgotten and neglected. I am a descendant of Pvt. John Isaiah Steinberger through his son John Norman Steinberger. Thanks again for saving this history.
