Bio and Links
Bio Photo I caught the genealogy bug from my great-grandmother, who took very careful notes and kept records of everything under the sun! I have been working on my own family history for around fifteen years.

I have recently begun the project of trying to completely cover the Astoria, Illinois cemetery, combined with researching the corresponding obituaries in the local newspaper archives, as I have access to the microfilm records of the Argus-Searchlight and Astoria South Fulton Argus.

I am also in the process of transcribing and uploading the archived obits from that microfilm to the website of the Argus, www.kkspc.com/argus. It's a slow, one-person project and I can only work on it when I have time so unfortunately the online archives are far from complete. If there are any obituaries listed in their index that are not online, there is also public access to the microfilm at the Schuyler County Museum in Rushville, Ill.

I run a weekly newspaper column in the Argus compiling newsy tidbits from the historical archives, and it was a natural progression to study the local people themselves. In a way, it helps to bring the history to life!

Edith Hoy at Monmouth Cemetery
Hi! I did not find her grave with the Hoy family where Fred Hoy is buried. I wonder if she is buried by her first husband and under that name. My visit to the cemetery was a one-time visit as a I live 200 miles away. Perhaps the Warren County Genealogical Society can help you find the burial plot.

Here is who is buried by Fred Hoy:
Betty J. Hoy, 5-5-1925 - 9-29-1996
Jennie L. Hoy, 1863 -1929
Fred A. Hoy, 1855 - 1929
Frederick C. Hoy, 8-26-1923 - 12-6-1998
John N. Hoy, 1906 - 1982
Ralph G. Hoy, 10-30-1894 - 3-20-1949

Elsewhere:
Alma B. Hoy, 1892 - 1962
Clarence L. Hoy, 1889 - 1945
Ardath P. Hoy, 11-16-1912 - 12-2-1997
Jack A. Hoy, 9-6-1913 - 3-8-1991
Hilda S. Hoy, 1891 - 1948
Fred C. Hoy, 1890 - 1973

Elsewhere:
Lillian Hoy, 1854 - 1932
Chas. H. Hoy, 1851 - 1925
Willis G. Hoy, 1853 - 1915
Arcadia A. Hoy, 1840 - 1901

I have photos of all of these, so if you add photo requests, I will post the photos that I took.

Best wishes for a great day! Ace

RE: Abraham Carlock - bio
Hi Laura, Thank you for all your efforts to highlight the history of Schuyler County in the Astoria South Fulton Argus. Brilliant!

I know I speak for the many descendants of Abraham Carlock in saying we would be tickled pink to see him featured in the newspaper!

I will send an email to you with my contact info.
All the best, Debra

The Hickle's
I am also a a Hickel from Ross County Ohio where Aaron and Sarah was from. There is a cousin in Washington Shelly Franklin who is working on a up dated book on all the Hickel/Hickle. Do you know her?

Hickles of Vermont IL
Thank you so much for photographing all of the Hickles of Vermont IL in the Vermont Cemetery. I am a descendant of Aaron Hickle & George W. Hickle. I have linked George W. Hickle and his son Wilmer Ray, together. I was so happy to find his parents and grandparents! Thanks again.

Gladys Bair
Laura, Thank you so much for working with Debra. Also appreciate the time and effort you took to get the headstone photo. As I asked previously, did you, by any chance, find her husband's gravesite? Also, wonder what became of the infant who, per the obit, was still living at the time of her death. Ah, the fun of researching is ahead!
Regards, Kaye

RE: Gladys Bear memorial
Laura , thank you so much for the correction! I am glad you found my error. I will take you up on keeping my memorial since she is linked to her parents already. I will give you credit for the obit.
Thanks again
Debra

RE: Gladys Bear photo request
Hi Laura, Thanks for the heads up. Actually, I do have her as Gladys Bair in my database. I don't know why I didn't catch it! Debra is usually pretty good at following up any requests. I'm sure the two of you will work it out. I would appreciate someone letting me know which Memorial # ends up being the "right" one. By the way, did you, by any chance, find her husband's gravesite near her. I can't seem to find his death date or burial place.
Regards, Kaye

Hi Laura, I can't remove your photo, but you can.
That happens to me sometimes, a glitch I guess.
All the best, Debra
