PLEASE CALL ATTENTION TO MY ERRORS AND OMMISSIONS... |
Updates are Welcome! I don't have time to respond with a thanks to every suggestion, but rest assured that I review requests and update records as soon as I can.
Recently found out through the F/G forums that AOL.COM HAS BEEN BLOCKING PHOTO REQUESTS FROM F/G SINCE EARLY JUNE. Oh well, perhaps I needed a break anyway...
I recall reading F/G FAQ had a suggestion as to limiting the number of suggestions/corrections in some time period... If you're on a roll with good data for my records, pass them on!! Please click the edit tab on the record in question and make a menu selection for the info to be updated. It Greatly reduces my errors.
Requests for Memorial Transfers are welcome if I don't have a particular interest in the person. Don't hesitate to ask!! PLEASE click the "Edit" tab on the memorial, then select "Suggestion..." and enter your transfer request.
THERE IS NO FAMILY HISTORY GIVEN BELOW. JUST NOTES ON LOCAL CEMETERIES AND HOW I CONTRIBUTE TO FIND A GRAVE.
Sept 2014 - Helping transcribe Diuguid Funeral Home records. Currently working on 1905 Cemetery burial "locations".
Bedford's Longwood Cemetery online cemetery records have used to update F/G Longwood Cemetery Records. There are a number of extra records added with photos and a number of records added by others using other resource material. More photos to come as time, weather and sun position permit. This cemetery is as near to complete as can be done without an independent review.
Bedford's Oakwood Cemetery online cemetery records are being used to update F/G Oakwood Cemetery Records. Elks Rest, (central portion of Section A and and Section B) is complete (with photos), as is the "Crypt" area. Records for the rest of Oakwood have been added. Currently uploading photos and scheduling repeat visits to complete the photo inventory of the entire cemetery. Additional online records for further sections are still under review Sept, 2014) and will be added as time allows.
If you need to add a new cemetery in Bedford County please check with the Bedford museum to get an existing cemetery name. There are more than 1800 cemetery/burial sites on record with locations/directions to the site. If you don't have GPS coordinates, please take the time to include "location/directions to" in the cemetery description.
If we can't locate a cemetery today, our decendant's will be even more challenged!
Although most of what I contribute to Find A Grave relates to photography, I'm a map sort of person and enjoy the challenge of finding any place in question in Bedford County. You're welcome to contact me with cemetery location questions.
I'm Bruce Paul, a resident of Bedford County, VA, USA for 30+ years.
I've found that photographing "Memorials" is an excellent way for me to combine my passion for Photography, the Outdoors, and History.
I started submitting records and photos after traveling country roads, enjoying the scenery while documenting my wife's DOOLEY ancestors who have been here since the early 1800's.
During my ramblings around Bedford County, I became interested in older monuments that were barely legible in Church, Public and family cemeteries...
I've been trusted with a job since 1998 that gives me the opportunity to visit many areas that are off limits (Posted) to most people... and I use those opportunities to seek out small private cemeteries that would otherwise be left unknown to F/G.
I'm sorry to say that I only speak English. I appreciate updates for any of my submittals in other countries and I'll work with you to to fix my mistakes.
VETERANS - For those that asked - I've completed a review of my cemeteries for VETS and have added them to Virtual Cemeteries. In 2006-09 I didn't keep good records of where I visited and after posting I deleted many of the photos I took, so they're not included. I'll be adding to the VET collection as time goes on..
Note that I don't 'collect' Vet memorials. However, when I come across biographies/photos or take photos where that information is available, I'll add them to my virtual cemeteries. If you have a local Vet that isn't included in my virtual cemeteries, you are welcome to contact me.
ELKS, aka Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks
The Elks National Home was dedicated in 1903 in Bedford. Residents that passed away until 1980 were laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery's, "Elk's Rest" (Oak A & Oak B) and are included in my Elks Virtual Cemetery. June 2013; I'm confident that I have a full inventory... See my Virtual Cemetery for the list.
Please note that VIRGINIA IS NOT A STATE!! (It's a Commonwealth).
Virginia's revised constitution of 1871 during the Reconstruction Period in US History specifies that 'Cities' are independent 'entities'... not part of the surrounding counties
For your best search results, check both cities and surrounding counties. Annexation boundaries change over time and small cities appear and disappear over the years. . .
Sincere and Cheerful Regards!
Last update September 2014.

|Dianna Taylor||Thank You !!!|
Thanks for the edits on Thomas read
|Frances Beckstrom Helmintoller||Martha (Mattie) Fizer Bell|
Mattie must be her nickname. She is mentioned in "Leftwich-Turner" book as Martha married to J.O.L. Bell's husband. I think the parents are correct. I took the liberty of adding her maiden name of Fizer.
Thank you so much for the transfer of Hilkiah Rosbrugh's memorial. I very much appreciate it. Sincerely, Stefani

Thank you for the kind reply. I am sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but for some reason, I didn't receive an email letting me know I had a message.
I submitted the request for Hilkiah but couldn't find one for any Deardorfs (and tried other spellings).
Thank you again!

Thanks for taking care of the edits so promptly. I do love the old topo maps and finding that one remote cemetery that hasn't been found.
I don't plan to do any of Bedford County. I don't know my way around there. My interest in the Otey cemetery is strictly genealogical, as the Oteys are my direct line. John, Isaac and Armistead are my 5th, 4th, and 3rd great grandfathers, respectively. I need to spend some time there, as I have a lot of information on the Bedford Otey history and would like to see the places I read about.
Thanks for adding their memorials and if I can ever be of help to you, let me know.

|R Hugh Simmons||Lieutenant Abraham G. Wolf|
I am writing an article on Lieutenant Wolf and would like to get a good quality digital scan of the tombstone images that you uploaded for the Find A Grave memorial.

The name on this memorial should read Emanuel Emanuel, the Th. D. stands for Doctor of Theology he was a Reverend. I know Emanuel Emanuel does not sound right, but that was his name.
