I am a retired Professor of English. I enjoy walking through cemeteries, which are very peaceful and full of stories. Every life has a story to tell. I like to make sure that members of my family have some information about them recorded in a place that it might last beyond the grave. I have only recently gotten involved in all this work, but my travels keep me away from it most of the time.

Thanks for letting me know it had been taken care of! I only caught it while going through entries I'd been making in the cemetery to make sure I hadn't duplicated any memorials myself.

Her memorial says she was a teacher at the Broadway School - I've tried to do some research to find out more history of the school in the past years. I was always fascinated with it when I was young and only was able to go into it once, when I was too young to appreciate the history of it. It was sadly torn down several years ago (and all of the beautiful oak trees have been slowly removed by the current property owner) but every time I pass by, I remember how beautiful it was. Is there any chance your aunt had any pictures of the school from her time there or had written any memories about her time as a teacher there?

Caroline E. Kay Mattison
Thank you for responding. I will contact you directly. I can now eliminate Charles Kay as the father of my g-g-grandmother, Caroline E. Kay Mattison, who is buried in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Oconee County with her daughter, Tekoa Washington Mattison Foster. I'm trying to determine from which Kay family my g-g-grandmother descends, and there seems to be quite a few Caroline/Elizabeth Kays--my g-g-grandmother used both names. According to the info on Find A Grave, there is also another Charles Kay buried in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery who was a son of Enoch Kay and a grandson of Charles Kay.

Caroline E. Kay
Would you know if Caroline E. Kay, the daughter of Charles Kay, married James F. Mattison who died during the Civil War? Thank you.

Don,
How wonderful to find this on site. A very nice article also. I just went back to the beginning of my tree on Ancestry and found this had been added as a hint. Thank you! Now if I could just find my family. Owen's has not been that much a problem. With great folks like you, missing my research trip this year wasn't so bad.
