I was born in NYC, but have lived in Virginia, teaching history at Fauquier High School since 1976. I'm uncertain when the attraction to cemeteries began, but it's rare for me to pass one by without stopping.
James Wilkinson I noticed you left a note on the memorial of James Wilkinson, conspirator with Aaron Burr. Since you are a history teacher I thought you might like to see what I have posted on his 2nd wife's memorial at http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=95307379
In the book by Hale regarding Philip Nolan called "A Man without a Country", Hale in a letter talked about how he derived the character of Philip Nolan for his book. He met with an unnamed man who claimed to be the grandson of James Wilkinson. In the Spring I was in Louisville, Ky and went to the Filson Club library who holds a huge collection on Wilkinson and found some material pertaining to the grandson who Hale met with and ultimately sold a painting of Wilkerson to a lawyer in Louisville in 1882. He definitely is the grandson and he was so indignant of the letters he had of Wilkinson's that he burned them. A family member from New Orleans was attempting to authenticate the paintings of Wilkinson and this material ended up in the Filson Club Library, which talks about this family member having the painting that hangs in the Filson and was the one who sold it to the attorney. I'm working with an author doing research for him on Philip Nolan, who was in cohoots with Wilkinson in Kentucky and he was ultimately killed by the Mexicans in 1801 while they were scheming to invade Texas. Very interesting history and quite unsettling about the men who are supposed to be our heroes of our Nation and founding fathers from what we have been taught in the history books, the facts are actually quite the contrary. Every where I turn Pres George Washington is involved.
RE: Deardoff I'm guessing that you are referring to Elliot Henry Deardoff. I have no idea as to when he passed or to where he is buried that is why both are left blank. I just didn't want to put a break in the tree but I see I should add info of their daughter since there are several I can add for her family, again just don't know their burial information.
