|Scott Mitchell||RE: Mitchell's|
I understand Dot's skepticism, truly I do, but I'm 100% positive that Allen is my 3x Great Grandfather. The article was very specific listing Dock's name, where he was currently living, his nephew's name, and the number of years he had been gone from the McMinnville area.
I recently joined the Mitchell surname project on Family Tree DNA. Perhaps one of Allen's other descendants has done the same.
Thanks for getting in touch with Dot .

Thanks so much for replying. I have not spoken to Dot and Leslie, but hope they get in touch with me.
My great grandfather was Charles Alexander Mitchell. Sorry if I did a typo with the name Allen.
The Mitchell line had been quite frustrating. First - my great grandfather's death certificate only listed his parents surnames. Second - my dad always told us his grandfather was an only child.
I came across a reference at the State Archives in Nashville, TN about Martha Forrest marrying William Mitchell. That was the first clue that was later confirmed by DNA and Martha's obituary that mentioned my G-Grandfather. Then, my cousin told me that G-Grandpa was not an only child. I finally confirmed he was one of 11 children. I don't have a clue where dad got the only child thing.
Still, I couldn't trace back past William until I found the reference about Dock Mitchell from Eagle Springs, Texas, which led me to Allen.
|Scott Mitchell||Mem #83718197 - Doctor "Dock" Mitchell|
Doctor "Dock" Mitchell was my 2 x Great Grandfather William C. Mitchell half-brother. Dock's father Allen Mitchell was married at least once, if not twice, before he married Sarah (Dock's mother) Wilson. My 2 x Great Grandfather William C. Mitchell was from the first marriage.
I found this reference in a book containing notices from McMinnville (Warren County, TN) newspapers: Dock Mitchell uncle of Charles A. Mitchell of here is visiting for the first time in 43 years/lives in Eagle Springs, Texas.
Charles A. Mitchell is my great grandfather, and the son of William C. and Martha (Forrest) Mitchell. Finding this reference helped me trace back beyond 2 x Great Grandfather William C. Mitchell . . . though I don't have a clue to his mother's name at this point.
The Memorial # for Charles A. Mitchell is - 123849965
