Bio and Links
Bio Photo I volunteer at Oakwood Cemetery in Niagara Falls. I have some limited access to St. Mary's and Sacred Hearts Cemeteries, which are adjacent to Oakwood, although most of their records have been destroyed and the cemeteries are in ill repair.

St. Joseph's, Holy Trinity and Gate of Heaven (Lewiston) are not far away and within my travel range for photo requests. I will only take photo requests that already have grave section/area info because these are HUGE cemeteries. Call the cemetery office, tell them you are from far away and ask they provide you with the info so you can send someone else to get the photo. Most places will do one or two requests for FREE. After more than a couple, however, be prepared to pay some sort of fee.

Riverdale and Accacia Park will NOT process requests for Find A Grave photographers and are particularly unfriendly about it. Call them and get the grave location and put it in your photo request. These cemeteries want to charge photographers if they go in and ask for help. For one or two requests, they MIGHT do it over the phone for YOU. Remember: your family BOUGHT plots there. They work for YOU.

Visit my Virtual Cemetery "Oakwood's River Folks" for folks who have died stunting at The Falls or in The Niagara River and then stop by and say hi to my recently departed best friend, Eilean "Ellie" Lyonhil Donan in the Virtual Cemetery, "Beloved Friends".

Thanks so much for sponsoring his memorial. I am going to see what I can find out about him. The county records here are not as accessible as they were in Montana - but I will see what I can dig up! Karen (aka Duke)

Elizabeth Jacob stone

Thanks for the update on the existence of a stone for Elizabeth Jacob at Oakwood. There must have been some confusion in my earlier photo request.

Christian Jacob
Elizabeth Shenk was married to Christian after her first husband John Miller died.( Town Section area 8). Elizabeth and John had a son and a daughter, the daughter was Bertha, and she went to Canada and married George Konkle. ( google George Konkle of Beamsville, Ontario ). Elizabeth had a daughter and two sons with Christian. Katherine, John and Christian Jr.( Chris Jr. is buried at St. Petersburg, FL ) Katherine and John are in the same plot as Elizabeth Shenk. One row back and to the right are my mother, father and sister. In the row with Elizabeth is also Frederick, Katherine's husband.( my grandfather). I did get a nice shot in the afternoon of Chris, I was there the same day as you, watering the new grass seed I planted.
Later, Ron

RE: Oops, sorry!
That's why I'm trying to document what is still known and, if possible, seen over there. Lockerbie, Collins & Colucci's are in the Sacred Heart side. Oakwood sold the land to the two parishes, and then for whatever reason the parishes quit using it and moved over to Gate of Heaven...Riverdale sold land to the Diocease.

When it opened it was used by St. Mary's (on the right side next to Oakwood) and St. Raphael on the left. St. Raphael burned to the ground and rebuilt as the Church of the Sacred Heart and was known as Sacred Heart church. Today the parish is combined with St. Theresa's and back to being called St. Raphael.

If you come across an obit that says funeral from St. Raphael and interment at "the Catholic cemetery" you will most likely find them in St. Mary's cemetery.

I didn't know about a fund but at Gate of Heaven a stone is tipping and sinking and I was told at the office that it was up to the family to have it corrected.

RE: Re: Tipped headstones
That would be great to have it put back. I was told that the Diocese takes care of the mowing but that any upkeep was the responsibility of the Parishes of Scared Heart & St. Mary's because they own this cemetery. I'll let you know the row that he's buried in too so you can update his plot.

RE: James Lockerbie
from what I've been told the family makes arrangements to have the stone uprighted it stays as is, and unfortunately it will probably sink. I'm trying to get as many pics of the stones as possible because it has so many stones buried there are sink holes. I've actually stepped in some deep holes and wondered if it's a stone under me or a casket. Tons of bees and ants too, so it's hit or miss as far as moving grass that is growing over a fallen stone.

Of course I will up date the photo

RE: Christian Jacob
If you are in town section, row 7, take a look at Christian Jacob. He is standing tall again.

Hi scotdeerie,

Thanks for all your work in entering memorials for the many Zeigers in Oakwood Cemetery. I have been doing a lot of research recently on the Zeigers, and have entered a number of suggested edits, which are awaiting your consideration.

Best regards,
