Bio and Links
Bio Photo <-- My sons, Sean and Eric, and myself, several years ago.

The older you get, the more deaths it seems, or maybe I was just too young to know the difference. I wanted something to memorialize members of my family and friends.

My cousin found out that in our Scovill line we come from three Mayflower passengers; John Howland, Elizabeth Tilley, and Richard Warren.

The majority of the memorials I made are family and some are very close family friends.

For all those that took my family pictures and used them on Ancestry, it would have been nice for anyone of you to say "Hey, I used your picture on my family tree!" I would have replied with something like "Lets see how we are related!"

Discovering who your ancestors are is one thing, but reading about them even if its just an obituary tells you something about them as a person, not just another leaf in the tree. Seeing their final resting place is a type of closure for me.

I'm looking for any information on Scovill, Hill, Gear, Parlett, Lawton, Shields, Weilbacher, Frierdich, Murrah.

Just to clarify, my mother does a lot of work on here with me since she knows the older family better than I do. If a memorial has many links, they are probably in my family.

If you add a picture for one of my memorials, please let me know so I can see it instead of stumbling on it later! Thanks!

If I've left flowers on a memorial, that doesn't mean that I know them. It could be that I was flowering random names, or I got there by following links from other memorials. I've flowered over 30,000 memorials, and I probably only knew a very small percentage of those people.

**I've sent out a lot of edits lately. I didn't single anyone out or intentionally pick on anyone, I'm just looking through family names in various counties. If I can see things that can be put on the memorial to make it more complete, then I send an edit.**

This was posted in the forums, and I think it pretty much sums up how most of us feel about graving and looking for our ancestors.

Your tombstone stands among the rest
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
you died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spread out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.

By Thelma Greene Reagan

Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where other cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

RE: Hi
My Sandy Hill, I have VA,some have KY..must remember that those 2 states,weren't always 2 states.. 10/15/1799-01/31/1867, s/o Isaac Hill,and Mildred Hines..Sandy married his wife in Barron co., Kentucky, like 6 of their children was born in KY,his father died in KY, aft his death Mildred traveled to MO.. According to Richard he is related to my lines,so if your Hill lines are connected to him, they connect to mine. Also, Sandy was an unusual name, I've only seen it in the Hill lines out of VA,KY,and MO.

RE: Scovil/Scovill/Scoville
Hi Sherry
I'm so so sorry to hear you lost some of your genealogy information when your computer crashed. Did you share the information with any cousins electronically? If so that would be one way to get some of the data back. Perhaps you have a gedcom file out there that you've forgotten about. I have quite a lot of Scovil/Scovill/Scoville information that I'd be happy to share with you. Most of it is from other researchers and not all of it is well documented but it might be a start. If you can tell me some names you recall I'll see if they are in my database.

Thank you for transferring Charles Orlando Scovill and Emily Snow Scovill over to me. I appreciate it very much.

Dear Sherry, I noticed your sarcastic remark about others using your pictures without permission and thought I'd write a note. I am not condemning you in any way because I used to feel the same way until I really thought about it. Then I put a note on my bio that anyone can use my pictures. Why? Well... are they really YOUR pictures? Unless you took them they are not. They are your ancestor's pictures. And why do we really put them on this or other public sites? To share knowledge. Knowledge and CORRECT information or at least as correct as we know. I would rather others have my photos (that were handed down to me or that I took) and my information (that I figured out)to share with their families ...probably my kinfolk, rather than be like two cousins that I have come across that would not share ANYTHING with me even though I had shared everything with them. Also, pictures/information not shared are like a family that I know of that just threw all their ancestors' pictures away....such a loss! And last, the reason I volunteer for Find A Grave is to "Pay it forward" for all the sharing others did for me in years past. To put out information others may not have the opportunity to find on their own. I WANT them to find the memorials I have created and enjoy the information AND the pictures! So I hope I haven't stepped on your toes, I just wanted to tell you my view. Have a wonderful Blessed day! Mary

Hi Sherry
I noticed the flowers on Harry P Scovill and Elvira Andrews Scovill. Just wondering if you are related in some way. If so we are cousins. Elvira's husband Hiram is the brother of my 2nd great grandfather Charles Orlando Scovill. If we are related I'd love to know!!!

I am blessed and honored to sponsor his memorial page. You did a great job on it. I hope you, and maybe his family, can add more photos in the future.
