RE: Gerald Richard Wilkin
Its a big possibility but I am not sure. Just to let you know if you plan on posting it you will to get permission from the person that had taken the photo, for copyright issues. I looked at the majority of the photos and they were awesome! Thank you for sharing them. Cindy

Good morning Mike,

Thanks a lot for the correction. I was in South Africa ( 30th of March - 30th of April ) so, I could not read your message before May the 1st.

I will edit the photograph.

Have a good day,

Cheers.

Abraham Slingerland
Hi Mike,
You have posted a photo of Abraham Slingerland. My family recently published the journal my great great grandfather wrote during the Civil War. It is on Amazon as "Missouri Volunteer". Lieut. Slingerland (his rank at the time) is mentioned frequently. We are expanding our website and would like to include information about the men in the journal where ever possible. Would you consider allowing us to use the photo you posted? Are you related to him? Cindy Lamkin

Found your other message saying you had some information on my great-grandfather & asking if you could email it? Yes, please. I'll be interested to see what you've found. Thanks. My email is fnddancer@yahoo.com. Best regards, Melanie

Thought you might like to know that someone decided to return his CMOH photo to his page, after my 2nd request, but I don't know who it was. I appreciate your offer to help if it had been needed... Thanks, Mike.

Thank you, Mike. I appreciate your understanding. In the meantime, I have sent a couple of messages to Russ Dodge, the original creator of the Find A Grave page for FLT and a senior editor. The first email bounced, hence the second message. Hopefully, he can clarify the situation for us. Best regards, Melanie

Portrait of Forrester Lore Taylor
Mike,
My attempt to re-upload my ancestor's original Find A Grave portrait were rebuffed saying that only one portrait is allowed per page. I don't understand why our family provided original portrait was allowed to be replaced by you, if they indeed were constrained by this criteria. My only other recourse is to ask you to remove your photograph which is unknown to his family and is unconfirmed to be him so that the original portrait may be restored to his page. Thanks again for the link to the auction house. I have tried to contact them to see if they might put me in touch with the owner, as the lot was unsold at that time (2007), and hopefully will still be available. I would be unhappy if multiple people, with more disposable income than I have, would also see this link and be more successful than I in my attempt to return these items to our family. Therefore, I respectfully request that you remove your photograph quickly, thereby also removing this link. Thanks for your understanding for why I make these requests. Best regards, Melanie

RE: Forrester Lore Taylor
Thank you for the link, Mike. I'm amazed that anything like these items exists, and I wonder who had them all these years. The Taylors moved to the Lynchburg, VA area in 1882, but their home burned down along with all of his military papers sometime before the 1890 census. The census asks for ranks, dates, etc, and his entry says that he could only provide limited information due to the fire. And, yes, I provided the later picture to Wikipedia. I believe it was taken ca.1902, perhaps at the GAR encampment in DC, as it was taken after he was awarded the CMOH (1897) and before 1907, both the year that he died and when the CMOH accounts were first published in books. I posted that photo and another to his FindAGrave page, but I don't know if either will be accepted and become viewable. The other photo is of him & others of the 34th NJ (with the others mostly cropped out). He is the short one with the short beard at the end of the back row (he was only 5'4" tall). Strangely, the man in your picture appears taller... well, thanks again for the link & for responding to my inquiry. This is a mystery for another day.
