Bio and Links
Bio Photo Just someone who likes to search genealogy for ancestors, relatives and people of the past. I am also in love with cemeteries, too!! I am an author and historian who enjoys investigating past unsolved crimes and mysteries, mostly of people I find in cemeteries. I search for the real truth, the history. I believe that NO ONE should ever be forgotten, and it is our job to preserve the history of the past and keep the memories alive of those who have passed before us for future generations.

"Let us never forget those who have been long since forgotten."-

Interesting article. Really can't imagine someone killing themselves with a pen knife. But??? If you ever come across more information, let me know. Thanks for looking into his death. Regards, Phyllis

RE: Timothy Curtin
That's great. Look forward to reading the article. Sounds like you may have doubts about the witnesses? Never know for sure about anything anyway. So many people died of syphilis, hate crimes, etc., but all covered up back then. Thank you so much for looking into his death. Phyllis

Hi - love your blog and thought I'd toss this "suicide" into your pile of mysteries. The whole thing doesn't sit right with me. I've read about a great many suicides in the old California newspapers, but a pen knife in the tules? Weird. Have a good one. Regards, Phyllis :o)

I corrected the name on the memorial. Hopefully the requested headstone image will provide additional bio data as my quick research came up empty.

RE: Bathsheba Thayer Sherman
I just read your article and found it fantastic. Thank you for doing thorough research and debunking the slanderous myths about Bathsheba. Wonderful article, and I commend you for your writing about those who can no longer represent themselves.

I am descended from the Shermans through my father's mother. Her great grandmother was Ora Sherman, the daughter of Judson's older brother Dutee Sherman. The Rhode Island Shermans are distantly related to well-known Shermans, Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman and Hon. Roger Sherman. The Shermans owned the largest farm in Burrillville and and as far as I can tell, were decent folks.

Thanks again for your words!

Bathsheba Thayer Sherman
Thank you for your kind and true words on Bathsheba's Find A Grave page. I am a fifth great grandson of Bathsheba's father-in-law and mother-in-law, Asahel and Rowena Sherman. When I learned about The Conjuring, I was mortified to learn that lies and less-than-innocuous fiction was being spread about this poor woman, against whom no such salacious claims were made during her lifetime.

They first said that since it was in the older section it wouldn't be as easy to locate. They printed up the original location from their book and walked out to meet me. Where i was standing was where we thought she should have been. He doesn't say why there was no headstone other than because it was so long ago or that there never was one. The grounds were fairly well kept so i doubt it is buried. But, if it needed to be replaced and no one to do so it may have been tossed....who knows how long ago. There are a few uprights that have broken of and are no longer there. The cemetery is the oldest in the area and currently sits in the middle of a residential neighborhood. It does answer some questions and definitely adds more. Sounds like more research....
