Hello fellow seekers of family history. |
I have been tracing the journey of my ancestors across the United States from Virginia and North Carolina to Claiborne and Greene County, Tennessee; Breathitt County, Kentucky; Harrison County, Indiana; Edgar and Clark Counties, Illinois; Woodbury County, Iowa; and Union County, South Dakota. In 1941 my grandmother moved to California with her three daughters.
Family names that I am following are Johnston and Fretz, in Ontario, Canada; and La Croix and Briere in Quebec, Canada; and the Hurst and Shannon family lines that lead back to Virginia and North Carolina. Names connected by marriage to the Hurst and Shannon lines include Boyer, Lindsay, Derr, Dunn, Ward, Small, Smith, McKinney and Keyser.
My interest in Find A Grave began in 2012 with my discovery of memorial pages for my great grandparents created by contributor Chris Mills.
Chris Mills had posted hundreds of thousands of records for burials at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, CA. Less than a week after these memorials were created I found my paternal great grandparents through an online search. So I am very grateful to Chris Mills for his extensive work, and he was my first find a grave friend.
Other contributors I have designated as friends have created memorials for ancestors whose grave locations I could not have found easily otherwise, who appear to have ancestors in common, or who have been working in cemeteries or in communities where I am seeking information. Thanks to all who work to shed more light on these family histories.
That's what I think others might want to know, if there is any other question or comment, please leave a message on my page or use the edit link on a memorial I have created to send a private message. -JHS

Thank you for the photo of Ernest's headstone. To see him resting there, thousands of miles away makes us feel like we are right there with him. A photo makes all the difference. Thank you for taking time out of your busy life to do this wonderful volunteer work.

Thanks so much, Johnston, for the photos of Aileen and Felix Cosgrove's tombstones. They've been a family mystery for ages, and it's wonderful to have found, at least, their final resting places. Thank you, again.
