A huge THANK YOU to all the folks who have fulfilled my photo requests and accepted the edits I have submitted over the years. Without you and the staff at Find a Grave I would not have been able to accomplish a fraction of what I have done. You all help make this site a wonderful resource.

To quote a fellow graver :-I am not related to most of the memorials I have added to Find-A-Grave. I will transfer management of memorial pages according to the Find-A-Grave guidelines, with allowances for common sense and my own discretion.

Kindly remember we are all volunteers so please treat others how you would like to be treated.

To quote a very good friend / researcher - "Genealogy without documentation is mythology"

GENDER - unless you asked the person to verify their preferred gender please do not guess based on the spelling of their name.

GOT A QUESTION - Check "Help" at the bottom of every page on this site. There is information there about almost everything you need to know about the site.

PLEASE, please, please always include the MEMORIAL NUMBER for any name in correspondence. You cannot assume that I have any knowledge of your relative / friend, even if I have created the memorial.

PLEASE DO NOT estimate birth years. The relatives of the dearly departed not only could get the date of death wrong on the monument but the age at death. Too many people take anything they find on the Internet as gospel, and I will not contribute to that bad habit. If you have a source that verifies the date , please let me know and I will update the memorial.

LOCATION - Please do not assume that because someone lived somewhere they would also die there. Frequently people are moved to a hospital in another town when they need medical attention so do not die in the place they lived. Perhaps they are on holiday or working away from home when they died.

EDITS - Please use "suggest edits" to send your suggestion to me.
Since others will rely on our work for their own research. I expect YOU to do the research. Sending an edit means, YOU know that your info is correct because YOU have done your homework. Please include the LOCATION of a primary source of information, not a link to a website and not stories from books, transcribed information or undocumented family trees.
If you are new to genealogy research, you may or may not have heard the terms "Primary Source" or "Secondary Source". Primary sources come from records that were created by someone who is required to document accurate records, an eyewitness or a person involved at the time of the event.

LINKS - most of the family links on pages I have created have been added by other contributors. When you see errors in links please use the edit page to send the correct information to me. I will then credit you with providing the information and other members can then contact you about that family.

DO NOT USE THE PUBLIC MESSAGE BOARD TO REQUEST TRANSFERS OR TO MAKE EDITS. To request a transfer please use the EDIT tab on the person's page and then "contact manager" to explain your relationship. Do NOT send me a list of names or requests for all people with a specific surname. I shall no longer make transfers unless you are polite AND can explain to me how the person is related to you.
However, as FaGer Scott wrote- If there is any particular entry that I have made that is very important to you, related or not, if you sponsor their page I will transfer it to you ASAP. This helps Find a Grave and shows me that this entry truly is important to you and that you are not simply trying to "collect" all you can find of a particular surname.

PHOTOS - Please select the correct category when adding photos. Documents should be added as "Other" Check "help" to learn how to do this. When adding photos of obituaries PLEASE remember that memorial managers are not notified when you add a photo, so please take a moment to add the information

THANK YOU to photographers who go the extra mile and look for other markers for people with the same last name and ensure they are on Find a Grave and have a photo. So often they are related and the requestor did not know they were there.

PHOTO REQUESTS - if you create a memorial but do not have a photo - please request one. A photo makes the memorial look so much more complete.

I will not create any memorials for graves where the intended occupant is still alive.

Written by contributor Ed Poulin - In an effort to get names and photos on to Find a Grave in a more timely manner I have not cleaned the markers, so you might come across a photo of one of your relative's stones and think, "What a mess". If you would like a better photo please use "request a photo" tab on that page.

REMOVAL - If you would like me to remove a memorial please let me know. I will remove the memorial as soon as I can.

PLAN AHEAD - Find someone who will look after all your memorials on this site when you are no longer willing or able to and who will create a memorial for you too. Let support@findaGrave know your plans.

In 2007 I was infected with Lyme disease while on holiday in Germany ( I was celebrating my retirement) and have learned that I need less stress in my life and need "gentle exercise". Taking photos for Find A Grave gets me the fresh air, exercise and the tranquility I need in the summer months and uploading the information exercises my mind in winter.
