Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am researching African American families. Dixon/Dixsons, Flacks and Barnetts & Moores in Person Co. and Buncombe Co., North Carolina; Twymans from Virginia to Versailles, Woodford Co. Kentucky; Browns in Versailles, Woodford, KY; Reeds, Turneys & Carters in Bourbon Co., KY and Taylors in Mercer and Jessamine County, KY. Also, Reeds in Harris Co. Texas that originated from Bourbon County, KY.

I add memorials in the hopes that someone may find a connection to their roots and that memories of people from the past. It also gives people a chance to "visit" their loved ones final resting place; where in many cases, they could not do that physically due to distance, health issues, time constraints, etc. No disrespect is meant in the creation of any of these memorials.

Please keep in mind those of us who contribute to Find A Grave do so VOLUNTARILY. This is a hobby and done solely for the purpose of freely assisting people interested in doing research of their family history and/or genealogy.

If any family member of a deceased sees errors in information or want to transfer ownership of a Memorial that I have posted, please let me know and I will gladly do so.

Find Me If You Can
RE: Joe Pelman
the dedication ceremony for the Joe Pelman headstone which is the first community project of this group....MONDAY, SEPT. 22 AT 6:00 PM the Locust Grove cemetery on Keene Road going out towards the bypass and Lowes....a HUGE thank you to the 83 members from Kentucky and 10 other states who sent their donations without even knowing how much we needed .... this is from the "You grew up in Jessamine County" facebook page..

Joe was one of those characters that everyone knew....he walked the streets of Nicholasville wearing a wool coat, a pith helmet or stocking cap and usually with a dog...Shep was his dog in later years...he never had a real job just performed various jobs for people around town,,,most of the time for free. He was a very small man, under 5 feet tall, but very strong...he pulled a wagon, usually full of junk, around town and it probably weighed 5 times his weight. He claimed that he was a Prince of Ethiopia which we found out when he died was not true. Joe died in 1976 when he sat down on the front bumper of a garbage truck and the driver didn't see him when he drove off. Joe's family did not have the money to buy him a proper headstone and instead just hand painted a piece of concrete which, over the years, has become just about unreadable. This group took on the project of purchasing him a respectable head stone some 38 years later....donations came in from 83 donors in our group from 11 different state and we will unveil and dedicate that stone on Monday, 9/22/14 at 6 pm at the Locust Grove Cemetery here in Nicholasville. There is much more to tell about Joe and that story will be told that night as we celebrate his life. We hope that you can attend!

Wayman McKitric
Instead of Burgin's Cemetery, he may be in the Robinson Road Cemetery outside of Burgin. There is an Ida McKitric there and a Wayman H. McKitric there also. That Wayman may be his father.

Hi, I am not able to delete any of Eliott's people. I have limited management and am able to merge 2 together. Elliot had his (not as elabrate as yours) on first, 2006, so I know Find A Grave won't delete his. I will try to merge, then transfer ownship to you, that is the best I am able to do. Elliott has not been on site for 2 years now. geraldine 47309755

RE: Will Dixon in Redmon Cemetery
I used to, grew up in Leicester.

Yes, the DC does state Marshall. Redmon Baptist Church Cemetery is about 5 miles from Marshall as the crow flies and is less than a mile inside the Buncombe county line. Google Earth will verify this information using the GPS coordinates listed on Find A Grave, 35.72410, -82.70190. The address shows on Google Maps as Marshall, NC.

The old granite sign outside this cemetery states "Redmon Cemetery".

Also, when I started looking at this problem, there were several duplicates between the Redmon made in Madison County and the actual one in Buncombe County, which had photos of the graves in that cemetery.

And because of the way Find A Grave is set up, you can't create a cemetery in a town that's not listed in a particular county, so a cemetery in Marshall, Buncombe County, can't be created.

Redmon Baptist Church Cemetery in Buncombe County is the correct cemetery, not the duplicate one added to Madison County.

Thanks, Karyn
