Thank you for establishing the memorial webpage for Capt. LINVILLE. Had you not done so, we would not known so easily what had become of him. I left the note which follows at your memorial for him. He intermarried with local families in the Savannah area. I've not yet verified his service record. Again, thank you, and

Note: Capt. Henry H. LINVILLE Sr. was born the 11th of September, 1830, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was first married, on the 11th of May 1857, to Mary Olivet HARMON, eldest daughter of the Rev. Abram HARMON Sr. & Anna Rose COPE of Savannah, Georgia; she was born the 22nd of February, 1837 in Savannah, and died there on the 2nd of September, 1862, with burial in the HARMON family plot at Laurel Grove Cemetery (Lot 531). During the War Between the States, Henry H. LINVILLE, Sr. served the Confederate Cause as Captain of the Chatham Artillery. His second and third wives were the sisters Joannah BREWER and Mary Eloise BREWER of Effingham County, Georgia, daughters of George W. BREWER & Penelope ELKINS; Joannah was born about 1841, married on the 20th of May, 1866, in Effingham County, and died after 1870; Mary Eloise BREWER was born about 1849, married on the 27th of March, 1877, in Effingham County, and died after 1900. In 1860, Capt. LINVILLE lived in Savannah with his first wife; in 1870, he lived in Effingham County with his second wife; by 1880, he and his third wife had moved to Nassau County, Florida. Capt. LINVILLE died the 22nd of July, 1898, and is buried at St. Peters Epicopal Church in Nassau County, Florida. By 1900, his widow had returned to Savannah to run a boarding house on East Harris Street. Although we know of no stones to honor their memory, the two née BREWER sisters are likely buried with their family at Little Ogeechee Baptist Church, in Oliver, Screven County, Georgia.Added by jrpv on May 08, 2008 9:50 AM | | |
