Bio Photo 'THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY'
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN

Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill
Today we talked where others cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.

Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.

Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.

Today we wondered about an unmarked spot
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.

Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.

Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.

Cherish it my friend, preserve it my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

Diane Pollard Keiser
Pollard Family Cemetery, Benson, Johnston Co, NC
Hi Steve - My name is Diane Pollard Keiser. I have also sent you an e-mail.

I see that you put, I believe it is 7 memorials at Find A Grave for the Pollard Family Cemetery, Benson, Johnston Co, NC. Among them is Maultsby Pollard Mackie, C. Clarence Pollard and his wife, Ida P. Langdon Pollard. Most, or all, buried at the Pollard cemetery are my family relatives. A son of Clarence and Ida passed away in Sept 2015 and I wanted to put a memorial at Find A Grave for him - His obituary has that he is buried at the Pollard Family Cemetery, Benson, Johnston Co, NC.

However, I want to make sure of what the cemetery is actually called. I have found some of these 7 people with memorials by other contributor, but they are showing them as being buried at Fellowship Community Church Cemetery, McGee Crossroads, Johnston Co, NC.

I'm confused - Is the Pollard Family Cemetery and the Fellowship Cemetery, one in the same cemetery?

Your help in providing information for me to understand this would be greatly appreciated.

One thing you may wish to correct...you mentioned that children were raised in the Soldiers Orphan Home - now admin building of State College of Iowa in Cedar Falls.
When my mother attended this school in about 1940 the school was called Iowa State Teachers College. It is now called the University of Northern Iowa.
Iowa State University is located in Ames and University of Iowa is located in Iowa City.
It can be confusing.

Hi Steve,

Sorry for not replying earlier, I am recovering from pneumonia. In regards to the Howell memorials you requested, they are also my GGG and GGGG grandparents. Looks like we are related~ Please let me know if you have any additional information you would like to add.

Have a great day!

RE: Info on the Huffman's
Steve, forgive me for not getting back to you sooner. I don't know fo a Joseph Huffman in this family. Jacob and Peter lived in Greene Co., Ohio. They have a brother Daniel who lived in Clinton Co. Ohio. All three boys were born in Hardy Co. Virginia (now Grant Co. West Virginia) near Petersburg. Their father is Christopher Huffman ( Gristfel Hoffman) according to a land lease and church records. Also according to bio of a grandson in Clinton Co. Ohio Christopher came to this country from Germany about the middle of the 1700's. Besides the three brothers name, there was was a Leonard on the land lease as well. I have not been able to any info on Leonard. Good Hunting. Sheila

Thank you so much for the photograph of Elizabeth Goodwin. I know her husband Charles is there somewhere, but apparently there is no marker for him. I'm very grateful to you for making the effort!
