Me, Genealogy & History:

It has always amazed me with the different ways people memorialize their loved ones. In addition to being a member of Ancestry.com, (NEGHS) New England Historical Genealogical Society and the Fall River Historical Society & Tour Guide, I continue to research my roots and assist others doing the same. In 2015, it did two DNA tests. Since then I have relatives coming out of the woodwork. This has led me to take another close look at my public tree (Kevret’s Family Tree) on Ancestry.com. In doing so I have paid more attention to very minor details and any claims or information in my tree is supported by attached documentation on Ancestry and Find-A-Grave. Should you ever see an error or have info to fill in any missing blanks, please do contact me.
Being a photo volunteer keeps me busy and I enjoy helping others with their requests, while learning interesting facts along the way.

In 1803 Fall River separated from Freetown Massachusetts. In 1804 the town name was changed to TROY and was used until 02.12.1834 when the name was changed back to Fall River. The post office at the time had a Troy, MA and Troy, NY. Fall River incorporated as a city 1854.

In July 1843 the southern part of what is now Fall River was called Fall River, RI. In 1856 Tiverton, RI split off its industrial northern section (Fall River, RI). In 1861 the Supreme Court moved the state line south from Columbia Street to State Avenue thus creating Fall River entirely within Massachusetts. As part of this court decision Pawtucket, MA became Pawtucket, RI. The mansion that now is the home of the Fall River Historical Society was originally located on Columbia Street. Built in 1843 it was ¾ in Massachusetts and ¼ in Rhode Island and served as part of the Underground Railroad. The house was moved (yes moved) in 1870 to its present location @ 451 Rock Street. The last owner/occupant of the house Elizabeth Hitchcock Brayton passed away on September 8, 1935. The house passed to David Anthony Brayton who in turn gifted it to the Historical Society. Please visit us at www.fallriverhistorical.org.

Me, my family and my home town:

Born and raised in Fall River, home of the Battleship Massachusetts at Battleship Cove & Museum, Marine Museum, Fall River Historical Society, former cotton textile manufacturer of the world, Fall River Line Steamship Authority and yes, home of the infamous Lizzie Borden, Durfee Theatre, the mills and the Quequechan River.

Son of the late Joseph & Marilyn Ann (Foley) Raposa. Grandson of the late Joseph & Josephine (Mattos) Raposa and the late James & Cecile E. (Bernier) Foley.

I was raised in the Sts. Peter & Paul & St. Anne's Church & St. Mary's Cathedral areas.

My sister is Lori Ann (Raposa) Albernaz, my nephew Jacob J. Albernaz and brother in law Raymond Albernaz of Tiverton, Rhode Island.

A 1974 graduate of Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School I attended Rhode Island College in Providence, RI. & New England Technical Institute.

In 1971 at age 13 I became involved with The Little Theatre of Fall River during their production of "Fiddler on the Roof". At age 20 another theater journey began, that lead to my founding of The People's Theatre of Fall River, Inc. During these times I was involved in many productions with many groups until 1985.

In the middle of 1985 I relocated to Boston/Brighton then Charlestown, MA and for 17 years in Everett, MA. Life throws us many a curve. In March of 2006, my mother, my friend, passed away unexpectedly. This void created by her passing will never be filled. In 2010 I suffered a near death experience and was hospitalized six times. On top of multiple issues I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. In July 2011 I moved back to the Fall River area after 27 years of living in the Boston area. It's nice to be home.

Since my return I keep myself busy with all of the things I have mentioned above. In June of 2015 I underwent Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery to treat my tremors. While not a cure, it has helped. If you or a loved one is facing DBS surgery, it is a tough decision.

So, with all I have said, do and plan to do, please feel free to reach out to me on Facebook or visit with me at the Historical Society.

Best wishes to you for 2016.

Kenneth Joseph Raposa

I just read your profile - wonderfully done and also very open and very moving. When are the tours offered and how much are they? I would really appreciate learning more about Fall River from someone like you. Mr and Mrs Beaulieu are related to my grandson but I also have relatives there that I could learn more about. I only live about an hour away. -MaryAlice

Hi Kenneth,

Oh wow - thank you ever so much!! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it. Can you take a pic of the cemetery record for us and email it to us?
And 18 yr old very interested descendant of one of the lines that stayed home in Quebec would be a very happy boy! Or maybe it is easier for me to ask the cemetery to mail one - they seem very helpful there. Anyway - thanks again ever so kindly for taking a 2nd look. Nice to meet you too. -MaryAlice Worcester MA.
