I was born in the lower Bull Run Valley of Anderson Co ,TN and baptized in the Bull Run River. My mom and dad bought 12.9 acres from the descendants of John and Sarah Cox in 1946. This has been home since that time. The Cox Cemetery is located on a hill behind my home for which I maintain as a voluntary caretaker. As such I wanted to know more about this family and started doing research online ,at the public library and the county archives. This area of 1000 ac was a 1788 NC Land grant to James Henry who conveyed it to his three married daughters, Elizabeth, Rachael and Ruby Catherine. |
A large number of my mothers ancesters are buried at Bakers Forge Cemetery in Campbell Co., Tn. Most were relocated there when TVA impounded Norris Dam and flooded nearby Loyston in Union Co.,Tn. At that time my mom age 12 moved with her grand parents Lassie Helen Craig Prater Turner and William Harvey Turner to land across the Bull Run River in Anderson Co from which is still in view from her front porch. My mom is related to the Sweats,Craigs,Dials,Praters,Turners and others at Bakers Forge .
My grand father John York came with his family to South Clinton in Anderson Co in the 1920's from Cordell in Scott Co.,Tn and is related to the Yorks,Jeffers,Newports,Lewallens and Sextons of that county. I am far more knowledgable of my moms family. I get very confused when I do research on the Sextons of Scott Co. There are thousands!- and all with the same first and last name!Ugh
" I always wonder what the people were like whom I'm tromping over and photographing. It's neat to sometimes get a feel for the reality of who they were and how they lived their lives. They sneezed, they dropped stuff that broke, they tripped over something in the dark or stubbed their toes, they hated okra or loved it fried in cornmeal, they loved to laugh or was mad at the world." by Edie Doepel #46583214

|Robert Sweat||William M. Sweat|
Hello, my name is Robert Daniel Sweat. I am William M. Sweat's great great grandson, and I had a few questions about him (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=41455030 This is the William Sweat I'm talking about just to be clear). So I'm interested in learning more about his service in the confederacy, I can't seem to find a whole lot of info. The only things I've found is that the 1910 US census confirms that he served in the CSA, as well as the fact that his findagrave profile seems to indicate it.
So I was wondering if you had any information on stuff like the units he served in, rank, ext. Also I would really appreciate it If you could send me any photos existing of him, his brothers, his children, or any other close family like cousins to him. I think it would be especially cool if you knew of any civil war photos of him or his brother James.
--Thanks a whole lot!

Dear Leo, Thank you for the kind explanation regarding Corporal Lonas' service in the Union, not Confederate Army. I have revisited him and left my new note of remembrance for his relatives as his memorial.
Always, in F-A-G brotherhood,

Thank you for the edit submitted for this memorial that is a cousin of mine. My family book of ancestors did not know the birth date. I am interested in how you learned the birth date. He died in WW2 so no one still living remembers him. Thanks for your contributions to this site!
|Amanda Naito||Benjamin Sweat|
And it appears from everything I have found that the same Benjamin Sweat is an ancestor in both Tinie Sweat's paternal and maternal lines :)
|Amanda Naito||Lucinda Sweat (Goins)|
She is my 4x Great Grandmother as well. The Sweats in my family ended when Tinie Sweat married Brooks Smith, Jr. So nice to meet you and thanks for the posts and information!
