J. H. Callaway
I am back at work on Bethel Cemetery. trying to find accomplishments of the family of J.H. Callaway. any offices held by his descendents, professions, military service or any information of their whereabouts that could help have this cemetery placed on the National Register of Historic places.

Mr. Callaway is not my relative, so would not need that, unless it has something historical, such as dates, etc. which would help with getting listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. that would allow us to apply for a grant to restore this cemetery.

RE: J. H. Callaway
I dont remember if I responded to this. if you open this photo with paint program you can read the words. the a was left out of callaway on the top of the stone and added above the C & L.
underneath is "Born Oct 1, 1809 Died Oct 31, 1868.
under the dates is
"it was hard indeed to part with thee
but Christ's strong arm supported me"
the gate is just propped closed, a lot of the fence is broken so you can walk in almost anywhere. has a complete list of stones.

Cousins of Bethel is a tax deductible organization whose goal is to restore this cemetery. donations of any size would be appreciated and may be sent to 4205 Coronet ST. Crossett, AR 71635. you will be sent a receipt.

yes, the cemetery is still in use. last burial was in 2010, the gate is closed but is not locked. there are some African American graves outside the fence which we plan to include if and when we get the money to replace the fence. there are also some trees on the land owned by the cemetery that we plan to cut as soon as the price of wood goes back up. it went down dramatically when our plywood mill closed. I will go back out as soon as I can and try to get a better photo, I did this one to send with the application for the National Register of Historic Places, and so was primarily after the dates.

I will add your email address to my contact list in case I cannot find this at this
