I've always been interested in genealogy and local history. I love reading old newspapers and driving around town with my mom while she tells me what shops used to be what back in the 70's.|
It was a combination of this fascination and the events that transpired after my grandma passed away in 2009 that led to me discovering Find A Grave.
There was some animosity within the family after Nan passed away, and as a result she never had an obituary, her ashes haven't been interred with Grandpa, and her name isn't even on their gravestone. I think this is terribly unfair. My Nanny was a wonderful person, and October 22, 2009 marked the end of a rich and fulfilled life that deserved much, much more than what we gave her.
I made her memorial on Find A Grave to make up for what I was too young to do when she passed, and now I have a permanent place to go to reminisce. I figure if she doesn't have a physical grave I can put flowers on, a virtual one is the next best thing.
This sentiment of not letting her be forgotten is what led to my additional contributions to Find A Grave. I've done what I can for Nan, but what about the thousands of other people whose gravestones are now the only sign someone once cared about them? The people who haven't been thought about in 30, 50, or even 100 years?
I feel that everyone deserves to be remembered, and I try to do the best I can on each and every memorial I make. I add obituaries if I can find them, and pack in as much information as possible. I'm on a quest for equal remembrance, and Find A Grave is an excellent tool to get the job done.
I've lived all of my life in Reno, Nevada, but my family includes the Becksteads and the Dodys of Utah, and the Montgomerys of Maryland. The Becksteads were part of the original followers of Joseph Smith and some of the first Mormons, although I'm non-practicing.
I will transfer to anyone and everyone. Out of guidelines, multiples, whatever; if you can make the memorial better, you are welcome to manage it. Also feel free to use my photos, there is no need to ask permission or credit me.
Be sure to drop in and leave a flower or two for my grandparents:
Lola June Beckstead
Francis Wallace Beckstead
...and don't forget about these sad deaths:
William Reinken III

Yes, Ralph's father is Thomas Elisha. I have already sent a SAC to the creator of his memorial asking him to link Thomas to Georgiana, and to his parents.
There are so many of "my" Hagar's I'm trying to get linked, that I do get a little confused, so if I send you a duplicate request, please pardon an old lady.

Find A Grave Memorial# 19416697 is for my great grandfather, George L. Jordan. I never met any of my mother's family since she was adopted at birth. No one that is still living knows anything about the Jordan side of the family. I was just wondering if you were in the area of the Masonic Memorial Gardens you might be able to find some info on George. If you can't that is ok. I appreciate you leaving flowers for him. :)
Thanks. Leslie Perry

I just wanted to thank you for placing flowers on our son's grave. That was very sweet to know other people care to respect our son as much as we do!
