I am Kerry Elkins. I live in Gladstone, Missouri, with my wife Joyce. I'm retired. I have been busy on the family trees of my side (Elkins, Monroe, Stansbury, Patchin, Usher, Satterwhite, Hallum and Woody) plus my wife's Fulton, Pence, & Braidwood trees. I grew up in Neodesha, Kansas and have many of the funeral home burial records.|
STRANGERS IN A BOX
Come, look with me inside this drawer,
In this box I've often seen,
At the pictures, black and white
Faces proud, still, serene.
I wish I knew the people
These strangers in the box,
Their names and all their memories
are lost among my socks.
I wonder what their lives were like,
How did they spend their days?
What about their special times?
I'll never know their ways.
If only someone had taken time
To tell who, what, where or when,
These faces of my heritage would
come to life again.
Could this become the fate
Of pictures we take today?
The faces and memories
Someday to be passed away?
Make time to save your stories.
Seize the opportunity when it knocks,
Or someday you and yours could be
The strangers in the box.

You've been so nice to transfer to me the two Memorials you had created. I'm very grateful and will take good care of them.
All the best

Absolutely!!! I am always interested in the Wassams!
|Linda McCormick||RE: Jefferson Monroe|
Kerry, Huey's uncle Elijah Monroe and his wife Mary Parr had a son John, born in Ohio, aged 19 in 1860 Census and lived here in Crawford County until 1870's-1880's who would be the right age for John Wilson Monroe. I'm sure this is the right parentage for him. I had John's civil war pension records from National Archives but I'm not sure where they are packed away right now. When I find them, I'll let you know!!!!!! By the way , Do you know what happened to Huey's oldest brother William? He is given in the 1860 census as the oldest child of Allan and Eliza . That's the only information I have ever been able to find about him!! Cousin Linda

Hi Kerry, sorry I haven't responded to your message sooner-i'm recovering from surgery with complications. Yes, this is the correct Jefferson Monroe, you have been looking for. My maternal grandmother,Ora Effie Ellis Rosbolt, was the daughter of Sarah Katherine Monroe Ellis and Elijah Ellis. Great-grandma's other sisters were Maria who married Joseph Bogard, Mary Ellen who married (1) Oliver Perry Bridwell (2) Daniel Spilkey, and Margaret who married George Pearson . I always wondered what happened to Samuel and J.H.(Huey). Let me know if I can help with any more info.Glad to share with you, cousin!!!!!!!!

Oh, you knew them. That makes it even more special. I wish I could go to the funeral, but I am a long ways from Sycamore, KS. :(

Kerry, I can't thank you enough for all of the information you sent on "Lizzie" and her husband, J H Brown. I know this took some time to put it all together and send it and I appreciate it so much !
