Martha Reid Chapter 19, UDC is located in Jacksonville, FL. Our Chapter Slogan for 2010-2012 is "Continuing our Legacy into the 21st Century". |
Our sesquicentennial project is "Virtual Confederate Memorials". It is our goal through this project to locate and document the graves of 800,000+ Confederate participants for historical & genealogical purposes as well as the recognition of their sacrifice in a central location by utilizing the Virtual Cemetery tool. Please take a moment to review our virtual cemeteries. We appreciated the information, photos taken and support that findagrave contributors have so generously shared. Please advise us of mistakes as we strive to be as accurate as possible but sometime the materials we have uncovered are not accurate.
Florida's Confederate Soldiers Home Society was organized May 12, 1892 by women who later were charter members of Martha Reid Chapter No. 19, United Daughters of the Confederacy. We were originally chartered as "Jacksonville Chapter 19" in the United Daughters of the Confederacy Organization on November 7, 1895 and was the first chapter chartered in the state of Florida. In January 1897 the chapter was re-named "Martha Reid Chapter 19" to honor Mrs. Mary Martha Smith Reid, Florida's most noble and self sacrificing woman in the War Between the States and the wife of Florida's 4th territorial governor.

We are seeking copies of Confederate letters and diaries which have not been submitted to any historical society. One of our projects is to obtain copies, transcribe (if not already done) and submit to various historical societies, including UDC for aquisition into their library research facilities. This gives your precious family heirlooms a permanent home so that future researchers will have access to them. If interested, please contact us at the email address below. Thank you for your consideration.
