After the horrendous earthquake in Haiti recently, I decided to read a book I inherited years ago, but had no interest in until now. (The Black Rebellion in Haiti" by Pierre Etienne Chazotte, and edited by his grandson, Charles W. Platt) When I did some research, I learned that Pierre or Peter, is my 4th great grandfather and Charles W. Platt is my great grandmother's brother. In reading the book I learned that Pierre was one of only a couple of white people who were able to escape the massacre of multiple thousands in 1804, partly because he had American citizenship. The unedited version is in the Library of Congress. In my research, I stumbled onto Find a Grave, and discovered that many kind people had made memorials for a number of my ancestors, for which I'm extremely grateful. Some have become friends and are assisting me in further family searches! Thank you all! Especially my friend in Reno!

You are very welcome :) Two friends and I are in the process of photographing all of Wilmington & Brandywine Cemetery. We each get so excited when we are able to fill these, many which have been waiting years! Your excitement make it all worthwhile.

Fold3 is related (I think) to Ancestry. It is free and sometimes people have added helpful info to their military website. It has opened a few doors in my search. I would love to be in touch with the Reeder family but don't know how to so. I hate asking that on a public message board. If you have a better way for me to reach out, please let me know. Enjoy your weekend!

Thank you so very much for clarifying our connection. What a help it is. Do you have any information on Admiral John Jay Almy, his parents, siblings, etc. A write up in the Congressional Cemetery Internment record gives a wonderful account of his naval career, which I abbreviated somewhat and added to his Fold3 records. Any photos or information would appreciated but I do not want to ask too much of you. You have been most kind and have opened important doors for me.

PS the Reeder Family Tree must have more info if you are acquainted with them. I do not have membership at present so am searching online.

Do you know the connection between your Mildred and mine? Am not clear of the connection but am certain there must be one. You have been so gracious in sharing your knowledge and I do appreciate it!

RE: Mildred Sellers Haines Mearns
Again, thank you for sharing. Mildreds sister, Alida had the middle name of Almy, after Alida G.. Mildred was born November 12, 1896 so I am perplexed as to how she had a second husband who died in 1901. My mother was born in 1930. David Chambers Mearns was born to William Andrew Mearns and Mary Beard Chambers Mearns.David had a younger brother named William A. Mearns, he was not a junior so I don't know if the A stood for Abbot or Andrew. There must be another Mildred Sellers as the name combinations are not common. I would love to know their connection as there must be one. I know we have an Almy family name as my mother also received it as a middle name. David Mearns was cremated and his ashes scattered around his final home, Goodwin House in Alexandria, Virginia. Mary Hume Richardson was born December 13,1900. She donated her body to science so we have no geavesites to visit. I dearly loved all of the aforementioned though I never got to meet Mildred. It means a great deal for you to share your information with me and I will try to share what I know as I learn more. Please stay in touch. Thank you again!

Mildred Sellers Haines Mearns
Thank you for responding. My grandmother was Mildred Sellers Haines Mesrns. She was the daughter of Major John Taylor Haines and Anna Eliza Almy Haines. She was born November 12,1896 and passed away July 28,1945. She had three sisters - Amie Cargilt Haines (who died around age 2), Netta Richmond Haines (b.June 27, 1892), Alida Almy Haines (1890 - 1965). Do we share a common ancestor? Thank you.

John Walker Moore
Thank for bring the memorial of John Walker Moore to my attention. I am not sure what I did so I have updated it to match the death record. I am connected to John, but distant, we are descended from the same Love family line. That is all that I had on him and his family.
