Update, December 14, 2014:
My life forever changed October 30, 2014 when my Mimi passed away. She was my world. She often times asked me, "What would I do without you?" and I always turned the question around and asked what I would ever do without her. I knew she wouldn't live forever, obviously... but she never prepared me for the reality of a day when she wouldn't be here.
Cypress View conducted her services and she is buried at Greenwood. Visiting both Cypress View and Greenwood just isn't the same as before. Maybe it will get back to the way it was, but for now I'm still around, and still happy to help with photos and research -- just not as eager as before.
My name is Shayna, I am 28 years old, and I am a San Diego native. I work for the County full time, but spend spare time with my grandpa, husband and pets (6 dogs & 2 cats) in my spare time. Some hobbies and things I like include: podcasts, perfectly-groomed eyebrows, tattoos, and 50s-era fashion.
My heritage is mostly German, but I also have a little bit of English and Welsh. Direct names include Oxley, Croft, Love, Shaneyfelt/Shanyfelt, and Mehlkop/Mehlkopf. There are many many names beyond that.
I am fascinated by many aspects of death -- not in a weird morbid way, but in improving the death experience (not surrounded by beeping machines in a hospital), seeing alternatives in the local funeral industry (can we get a green burial space in San Diego?), empowering individuals to know what is and isn't law (you don't HAVE to embalm grandma), and encouraging discussion about all of the above. We're all going to die -- why not educate and empower ourselves to be extra specific in our advanced directives? While we're alive and well, let's get it done. And for the sake of future findagrave volunteers, can we all promise to arrange for the engraving of our death date on our marker/plaque/headstone? The number of times I've come across a marker with no death date because the person had no next-of-kin to make sure it was taken care of...
Photos & Photo Requests
Yes, you may use the photo(s) I took.
I have added many many memorials at Cypress View Mausoleum and already have photos for most of those memorials. I am slowly adding photos to the memorials I manage (4,000+ photos on my computer) so hang in there with me. If you plan on requesting a photo on a memorial, it is likely that I already have the photo if I manage the memorial and I will upload it ASAP.
Yes, I understand findagrave has set rules about whether or not one is "worthy" of requesting management, but as far as the memorials I manage, I'm typically more than happy to transfer management even if they're a distant relative, next door neighbor, 12th cousin once removed.. whatever. I'm not the "keeper of memorials" -- that's not my purpose for having added them in the first place.
If you have additional information or would like to edit information on a memorial I manage, please use the "Suggest a Correction" function. Otherwise, you're welcome to leave a message on my contributor page or e-mail me -- firstname.lastname@example.org
I am happy to take photos or do additional research -- just send an email and let me know what you need!

Thanks for sending your findings
Although his obituary states that services were conducted here and cremation followed, there is no mention of his remains being interred here. Sure enough, the girl working at the front desk today (Ruth) was unable to locate a lot card for him, which indicates he was not placed here after the cremation -- perhaps the family kept his remains.
So sorry I wasn't able to get a photo for you.
I have asked that this be attached to his find a grave site for him so others who might someday be looking for a grave will know. Much appreciated! Barb :)
|Lee White||Thank you!|
Thank you for taking and posting the pictures of the grave markers for Briggs C. and Mary Alice (McLaran) Keck. I really appreciate it!

How do you the grave plot information on a person at Mount Hope. I have a phone number that no one answers and they don't call back either.

Finding plots at Greenwood is like going on a treasure hunt. However, I find I am getting better at finding the plots. It is easier when they give me the correct map. Unfortunately, that has been the problem several times. Eventually, I will have collected all the maps and won't have to ask for them anymore.

That would be wonderful. I have unclaimed Frank Rose and Francis Day so you can do it. I am waiting for a monopod to come in the mail to make those very high shots in the Mausoleum's easier on my iPhone.

You may have found something....the birth year would appear to match the census records 1875. Those records indicate she was born in Kansas. We have not found a marriage record yet..maybe 1902?? Thanks for continuing to look...she is a mystery. Will keep touch with you if we find anything else.
Thanks so much for the Kenison headstone photo from Mount Hope. I appreciate your help. Steve
|Peggy Joy||RE: Shanyfelt|
Your welcome, glad to help.
I can e-mail you the obits from the local paper if you would like them....Peggy
