YOU CAN ALWAYS TELL WHERE A BEAUTIFUL SOUL HAS BEEN BY THE TEARS AND THE SMILES LEFT BEHIND

My Lanigan ancestors came to America during the Great Potato Famine of Ireland. Their first child Sarah was born in New York in 1847. Her father John Lanigan and her uncle James Lanigan helped to build the first railroad into Fairfield, Iowa. (name spelled Larrigan in 1860 census) Both signed up for the Civil War in Jefferson County Iowa at Lockridge, Iowa. Both were Catholic. They both settled in Ottumwa, Iowa and that is when my grandpa James Aloysious Lanigan was born in 1860.He married Anna Phillips at the old St. Patricks church at Ottumwa on the South side.

Braden, Ida Belle

Hi Mary,

I believe that Ida Belle and spouse, James N. Braden are buried together. The marker has only his name. I await verification from cemetery staff but have included a photo of the marker. Will contact you with follow-up information and make appropriate changes if necessary.

Fell Cem, Patricia J. Peebler #9304573
Fell Cemetery #9304573-Patricia J. Peebler died in 1936 (stillborn I believe). Her parents were John and Pauline Peebler.

I noticed that information has been added for a Margaret MAE Peebler.

According to the obituary in the Feb 27 2013 Ottumwa Courier, Margaret MAE was born 25 Feb 1937 and died 26 Dec 2013. She was the daughter of James L. and Irene Downing Moore.

It seems these may be two different people.

Mike Shea, Vinton Co OH
Added pictures to Mike Shea's memorial 46459960. Looks like a relative? Heard a tale or two of him, he walked some great distances, exploring Vinton county while carrying a backpack. He stopped at a bar one warm day, and while he wasn't looking they slipped a brick into his pack. He put the pack back on when he left, walking out without apparently noticing the extra weight!

He is also credited with finding the Pioneer Cemetery in the Zaleski State forest (see cemetery photos for story).
