Bio and Links
Bio Photo So many people have come before us to contribute their DNA to our family trees and as I unravel the roots of my family I so appreciate people who have gone into the cemeteries to photograph tombstones and spend countless hours transcribing records so I can document my family. I would love to be able to help others find out more information about their family ties and I don't want anyone to be forgotten, so I love that this website gives us the tools to do that.

If I have created a memorial page for anyone related to you that falls within the Find a Grave guidelines, (vertical relationships, not sideways) please let me know. I hold to the Find a Grave rules on transfer requests. I am more than happy to add anything you want to pages and am quick to update. You may add photos and notes to any page whether you maintain them or not.

One note also about getting pages from inactive members that I would like to address. Many have created their own family pages and think they can have them safe and sound without being on this site for awhile. I can't transfer them in good conscience because they can come back at any time and ask for their pages back. Some people have to go inactive for surgeries or have upheavals in their lives, so they take a leave hoping to come back to their pages later. Find a Grave has entrusted to my care some of those pages, so I'm holding them in trust and will only transfer for close vertical relationships.

To get anything added to a page, please use the EDIT tab on the upper right corner and then the top line that says "suggest . ." Also use this method to add additional information to put in dates and places, and the new tab to link children & married couples. Hooray! The linking tool is built into the edit tab now, so please use it.

I have been a professional photographer for 37 years and I know how dear to the heart of a photographer the copyright is of a photo. However, in the case of my tombstone photos, if you would like to use them on other pages like Ancestry.com, feel free to do that but please have the courtesy of telling where you got it. "Photo by Sandy VanderTol" would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

RE: Emma Curtis Sanderson
I have changed her name to this and hope it works out better for EVERYONE! Her second marriage was a short one and produced no children so listing her as Sanderson sure does make a whole lot more sense.

I have been searching in Hanover at the church and no luck. My direct line I have more on them. Maria Ickes 13663179

If you find Magdalena Ickes please let me know. I would love to find her. I have been on this family of the Ickes for 20 years. I started with Art Ickes and followed my line which changed the name to EKAS and one branch spells it EKIS.

RE: Kellers Chapel Cemetery
I was recently in Indiana and lucky enough to visit a MASSIVE and very, very old cemetery. The cemetery is 140 acres. Let that sink in for a second LOL

We had the amazing luck of running into the groundskeeper who spent 3 hours explaining the entire cemetery layout to us and giving us over 50 maps (CRAZY). He was very nice and off the clock. We paid him well for his time ;)

His explanation was so detailed that we were able to go directly to the graves we were seeking.

While marching through the place we ran into a Find A Grave contributor. Such a nice husband and wife. They've spent years photographing the place.

Even though I've been a member of Find A Grave for a long time...I had never done more than photograph the graves I was interested in. They got me so excited that I spent my Thanksgiving vacation photographing graves HA

Wish I had caught their names :(

RE: Photos
So how does the merging take place? I've seen a lot of duplicates.

Most of the ones at Keller's Chapel are one memorial where a person has taken a photo of the headstone and another memorial where the person has copied the obit out of the newspaper.

RE: Kellers Chapel Cemetery
It's been fun but I have to say, hard work! This was my first time to photograph an entire cemetery (actually two). Adding all the info takes forever! I've been working on one cemetery for a month now!

I have no idea how you've done thousands of memorials!!

I like adding as much information to each memorial as possible. It seems sad to have just general information. These people were loved dearly (I hope) by someone and I hate for the memorials not to reflect that.

RE: Edits in edit tab
actually didn't see it until today I always go thru all my entries when family members send me info or I find it myself. Many of the edits had wrong birthplace or deathplace or no change The one with Frances (Bovine) I'm working with another contributor because it actually an duplication but was told they weren't two different people but your edit has proved I'm correct ... Thank you for the heads up I actually had many edits and all are done.
Thank you Thank you many blessings sending your way.

RE: Kellers Chapel Cemetery
I agree. I hate when they are shot from above and just angled down. Do people realize how hard that is to read?

Also...politely move the flowers and things in front of the headstone!

Now that I've said that...hope you like my photos LOL
