Transfers
Hi Jerry,
Thanks for the edit. We should get together one day with some other "local" Find A Gravers, and have lunch with our photos!

I know the family, but don't need a transfer. Thanks again,
Karen

RE: Vet's in powell
That's not surprising. I think there's actually even more. I wish for a database with the name of EVERY person who has ever served, ever. But that would take the fun of research out of it. :)

So, I was wondering if my 4 year old and I can help put flags on graves, for Memorial Day? Or is that an honor given to living veterans? Does the local Legion do that? Or someone else? If you're part of something like that, would you let me know? Lili's older brother and sister are both serving currently, and it's a good way for her to participate and learn the importance of honoring our veterans.

Thanks for all you're doing to honor our local veterans, Jerry! :)

Santa
I just enlarged your profile pix. ROTFLMAO. I gotta know if it's just a photo shop job, the marker for a person who'd changed his name [or whose parents had a weird sense of humor] or somebody really spent a bunch of bucks on a cruel -- but absolutely hilarious -- joke.

1Lt Glen W. Best
1Lt Glen W. Best was an officer in the 531st Engineer Shore Regiment and was severely wounded in the invasion of Sicily, which started on 10 July 1943. Lt Best was evacuated to Africa and died of his sustained wounds on 12 July 1943. He was buried in the temporary American EL ALIA Cemetery in Algeria. After the war his remains were repatriated and buried in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell, Wyoming.

If Lt Best would have died in Sicily, most likely he would have been buried in the temporary American GELA Cemetery in Sicily, where over 1,200 men and women were buried between 1943-1947.

I am writing a book about the GELA Cemetery and have a chapter about the men who were wounded in Sicily, evacuated to Africa where they died. I would like to use the picture you took of Lt Best's grave, can I have your permission, of course you will be credited and notified when the book is finished (next year)

thank you

Re:My previous message
I just read the previous messages, should have done that first...I could not tell from looking that it was a child in the reduced photo or that it was crying, I just saw a blond and it appeared she had her mouth open wide for some reason......So the tombstone reads Santa? That is so cruel, where is this cemetery anyway.

Re: Your Profile Photo....
What is the story behind the profile photo?

My vivid imagination says that the woman pictured in the photo found a tombstone with her name on it, and she is expressing her dismay or horror at the thought.....

Or she found the tombstone of her ex-husband and his 2nd wife and she is repulsed by it.....

Or she never has her photo taken, and the photographer surprised her, so she is giving him a terrible picture to remind him of how she feels about having her photo taken.....tell me, please.

Now I forgot why I got on here...so will have to write again, I think it was a question about Smith or McCurdy family buried in Johnson Co. MO.

Your Bio Photo.
I came across your contributor page while looking around and I just wanted you to know that your bio photo really cracked me up. I couldn't understand why someone would want to use a photo of a crying child, UNITL I clicked on the photo and could read the headstone in the background.

That is a riot!
