I have added these memorials, mostly from the historic cemeteries of Charleston to memorialize all the individuals who have contributed to Charleston's past.

In the event a photo of a headstone is not included, it generally means that the memorial information was taken from a cemetery transcription or death record. One of those who did the transcription was Elizabeth C. Curtis. Without her efforts cemeteries such as Trinity United Methodist and Old Third Central Presbyterian Cemetery records would not be included or available since neither of the above church exists today, including the cemetery and headstones. I just found out yesterday January 21, 2010 that internments of Old Third Central Presbyterian Church Cemetery have been moved to Riverview Memorial in Charleston. There are others who did transcriptions, but I am not aware who they are. If someone knows, I would be glad to acknowledge them in this profile.

Some of the headstones at the Circular Church were impossible to read, however the church had previously documented many of the graves sites by plot #'s. In those cases where I could not read the headstone I used the information from the church records found at the Charleston library to identify the headstones. I did list the plots #'s on the majority of the memorials.

A special thanks to the work of Clare Jervey published in 1906 with the transcription of St. Michael's. Her transcription allowed me to include much that was unreadable.

Could you please move your photo from 37246574 to Louisa Raoul 23353709? The first is a duplicate and I'll ask to have it removed but dont want to lose your photo.

Benjamin Moodie
Do you have any other information on Benjamin Moody and his family? I have found some information on him and trying to see if he is in my line.
Thank You Rachel Moody

Robert Heriot Clarkson
Has been added to Trinity as the husband of Mary Mayrant Clarkson. It is logical for him to be there, but I didn't see a stone and if he is listed in the survey, I overlooked it. Maybe he's in one of those above the ground crypts that are so difficult to photograph- quite a few are unreadable. Would you please have a look and edit me on his details?

It didn't work tonight. I will work on it over the weekend. I may have to scan it in as a jpg. so it will download properly. Research is my love...computers are not!

Caroline Legare grave info
"Caroline Lagare" St. Philips Churchyard, Charleston, SC Memorial# 35295653; born Nov 1780; drowned may 17 1809. This stone is very hard to read but I believe it to be "Capt. John Legare" (although the stone spells it "Lagare") who drowned Saturday, 17 May 1806. I have the newspaper notice of his death and I am happy to email to you. You may want to include this with his stone. He was trying to save another seaman who had fallen off the yard arm. There is no record that I can find of a Caroline Legare with those dates buried there as of this email. Please feel free to email me at I am amazed at the graves you have submitted to findagrave! I truly applaud your efforts! We all benefit from you dedication!

Thanks, Carole
