I have long, long connections with Wilkes County, NC. I grew up in upper Virginia, the D.C. area to be exact, and would visit here from time to time with my dad, who was born in Wilkes County. In 1967, we moved to CA and I married in 1970 and moved to Oregon where I lived until 2000. At that time, I moved back to CA to help with my parents. Each year, we would visit during late September/early October for family reunions and about two years ago, daddy and mother were getting tired of things in CA in the Bay Area and started thinking about moving. We looked at property in Wilkes County and last September found the home we now live in. We moved from CA to "home" and the moving van pulled up on Dec. 26 of 2007 and in we moved! We are glad to be home among family and friends and while I have never lived here before, it feels like home since my roots go back to the 1770's here and I feel like I know all there is to know about Wilkes (which, I'm sure, is not true!) But, here I am and since I am caregiver for my 90-year old dad and 85-year old mother, (who has since passed away on June 11 2009), I don't work and have some free time on my hands. I am going to attempt to photograph Wilkes County cemeteries over time and since findagrave was so helpful to me, I am happy to be able to add to the lists. I am willing to help with questions and answers about Wilkes cemeteries and history, but cannot guarantee I will do it in "your time". lol I love this website and appreciate all the great contributors.

Hi my name is Jennie Wade and I wanted to inquire about a photo that you added. You posted a photo on my great grandmothers grave page and I was curious of where it came from and how you got it? It looks like an old "family" type of photo so if you wouldn't mind getting back you me as soon as you can I'd really appreciate it. Thank You in advance

I have no idea if Della Brewer if related. These corrections come in and I approve them. Sorry maybe I shouldn't, but most of the people say they are family

James M. Mitchell
Hi C. Fairchild,
I put 2 military cards on James M. Mitchell's Find-a-grave because I thought his army record should be remembered by all of us. He has 31 cards in the National Archives, but I can remove these 2 if you want. Apparently, James joined the First NC Infantry Regiment, Company B--- our own famous Wilkes Valley Guards. He was severely wounded 3 times and was in and out of the hospital a lot (which is probably why he survived the war). I posted the cards that gave the most information to remember his war record.
(a Wilkes cousin... also dating back to the 1700's)

RE: Annie Mae Robinson Laws
Greetings --

So, here's an obit from the Miller Funeral Service:

"Mrs. Karen Ann Foster, age 67, of Purlear, died Monday, February 1, 2016 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She was born January 22, 1949 in Wilkes County to Wade Orville and Annie Mae Pruitt Laws. Mrs. Foster was a member of Stony Hill Baptist Church and Purlear Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving are her son, Carl Elledge Jr. and wife Linda of Millers Creek; and grandson, Zachary Elledge of Hickory. Graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Purlear Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ken Pardue officiating. The family has requested no flowers, memorials may be made to Stony Hill Baptist Church, 406 Summit Road, Purlear, NC 28665. Miller Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences may be made to"

Note that it lists her mother's maiden name as PRUITT -- and Not ROBINSON -- which is the reason for my query -- I don't argue with Barb Pipek -- nor with you -- just trying to figure out if we all have the 'right' connections here.

Perhaps our Wade Orville Laws was married twice -- or is there some error here that should be corrected ???

Sorry if I have insulted your integrity !!!!
