"Your tombstone stands among the rest;
neglected and alone
The name and date are chiseled out
on polished, marbled stone
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn
You did not know that I'd exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
in flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
one hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
and come to visit you."

RE: McPeak Family
We dont know where he is buried there was no death certificate of his buriel and everybody is dead to ask. all i know is that he was divorced at the time of his death and the children where put in a foster home until they where big anuff to leave. back then they had guardianships. Johns sister married a Jennings Deer and moved to Henderson co,Tn. And There was a son named Boswell or Baswell that we have never found. And Johns mother has also not been found. I have checked every cemetery listing by county and nothing. Its like after 1838 they dropped off the map. Im not sure but the old spelling for McPeake is spelled with a E on the end and when they came over here they dropped the E and in 1849 it was added back on with 2 slashes under the C I have also seen it with 1 slash also i believe this is a sign of how many generations we have been here 300 years.I put 2 slashes under mine with a small C with 2 slashes under it. We all decend from the brothers william, james, john, patrick, and Daniel the earlist record i have found is all the way back to 1714.So we have been here a very long time.

Eileen,
My wife's ancestors are the Esswein/Eswine line.
Albert Esswein, one of the founders of Piopolis and the St. John the Baptist Church, was her 2nd great grandfather. We've visited the church and the cemetery several times. Her line was the inspiration to start doing genealogy. Many of the people who settled Piopolis came from a small community in Baden, Ersingen. The church records begin in 1625. In fact the German settlers in Piopolis used the name of the Ersingen church, St. John the Baptist, when they started their Catholic community. Ersingen has since merged with a neighboring community, Bilfingen, for the present day Kampfelbach. I have copied all of the church records from Ersingen and Bilfingen (a lot of hours spent at a local LDS Family History Center). I have since digitized the information, and so I know which people were born in the two communities and their relatives and ancestors as well as their birth dates, dates of death and marriages and dates.
I've used Find A Grave a lot for images of grave markers and headstones and for those photos of people that are available, but it was only a couple of days ago that I figured out you could go through the names of those buried in the St. John graveyard. So that's what I've been doing.
Another source is the two volume "Piopolis Family History" which I bought from the person who put it together a couple of years ago.
Should I admit that I have over 15,600 people in my Family Tree Maker file? That does not include all of the people in Ersingen and Bilfingen - just the direct lines.
Eventually, I will upload my material to Ancestry.com, but there is still a lot more info to be had before I do that.
Roger

RE: John Oeth
Yes, that is the same John Oeth. I got his birth and death dates from his death cert. I had been doing a little research on this family. I believe Eathel was his wife and Alva may have been a son. Thanks for the pics.
