NO gravestone for Civil War ancestor
Hello.

I started genealogy 20 yrs. ago because I wanted to learn about my estranged Great-Grandfather, George "Sanford" KIDDER (1870-1943). He was from Princeton, ME, and his father was Joseph KIDDER (1839-1915) of Princeton, ME. It was soon after that I found out that Joseph had served in the Civil War. He was in the 9th Infantry and he was sent to fight in Fort Fernandina, FL. He was seriously injured there in 1863 but recovered and returned to Princeton. Served 1861-1864.

I've learned a lot about those KIDDER's in Washington Co., ME, but there are still many questions. Because the people in Princeton don't really like to answer my letters, I have never received pictures of any of them. .. And, all this time, I've never found out where "Joe" KIDDER was buried.

In 2003 I was told he was to be honored in a Ceremony in Priceton, and no one will provide me with info about that Ceremony. In 2007, a fellow researcher told me, from a book, that there were 3 KIDDER gravesites in the Princeton Cemetery. But, "Joe" was not mentioned.

This month I wrote to the St. Croix Historical Society, and they wrote back last week with info for me. I now know where Joe was buried. In the grave with his son, Frank, and daughter, Ruth. Since Frank was a soldier in the Spanish-American War, he has a small stone honoring him. There is .NO. stone mentioning his father.

Putting the notes together only Joe's relatives are mentioned in books about records.

It was maybe 4 yrs. ago when a librarian went out and took a picture of one of the KIDDER gravestones, and possibly also the 2nd one about Frank. I don't know about the gravestone in the 3rd site. I can offer the 2 photos.

Do you have any resources or connections in Washington Co. ?? Joe's older brother, John, was drowned at sea in 1887, and his widow moved to Gouldsboro, ME. (I have no idea what is mentioned at that grave.)

(I understand from TV that is now known as the Gold Coast.)

Joseph Pierce
Hi Andrew,

Are you still doing Findagrave work? I was wondering if you could do a memorial/take a photo of Joseph Pierce in the South Thomaston Cemetery. Barzillai Pierce was my gggg grandfather. I'm curious about the stone for Joseph next to Barzillai's stone. There is some disagreement over whether Barzillai's father was Jonathan or Joseph. The Joseph stone may help clear that up. Please let me know. Thanks. I hope you are having a nice late summer in Maine.
Best,
Ken

Memorial Transfer
Andrew,

My name is Allyn Spear and I saw that you have made a memorial for Rebecca Spear (#101799087). She is my 3rd great grandfather's baby sister. I was hoping you would be willing to transfer the memorial to me and allow me to manage it and update her information as well as link to her family. If not, please let me know and I will get the information to you for you to update.

Thanks,
Allyn

I submitted Edit 5/23 to add parent info, but I made a mistake, sorry. Today 6/13 I submitted the correct Edit with father Abraham Simonton 81506184 and mother Lucy Haskell Simonton 81506333 (ok as was). Thanks very much.

RE: Edwin Crawford - Mount Hope Cemetery
You are very welcome. I'm really interested to see if this is an extended family lot or what? A very large lot with multiple names it was a surprise. The office showed me a very old lot card with lots of names on it. I'm willing to bet they would allow a copy to be made. Do you know of those names?
In any event, Celebrate Volunteerism!!!

Annie Lynch Campbell
Hi Andrew,
There are two St. Mary's Cemeteries, when the Original cemetery in Augusta had no more lots available the Parish open a second cemetery in Manchester, ME. After walking both cemeteries, I found Annie and her husband George. They are buried in the Manchester cemetery, not Augusta. Someone else has created "Find a Grave" memorials for them with the correct cemetery info. The contributor may be willing to work something out for Annie's memorial. I have photos when the details get worked out.
Best regards,
D-
