My initial foray into genealogy was a 5th grade project, in which I drew my first family tree. I have seriously been researching my family history for the past 15 years. My day job is a scientist and professor at a prestigious research institute. Accordingly, I love the investigative nature of genealogy that relies on fact searching and instinct.
My roots run deep in the history of the US tracing back to Joel Gibson, the revolutionary war veteran who died in Henderson, KY. My dad is a direct male descendant of Joel, and his DNA analysis suggests this Gibson line likely came from Ireland.
My mom's ancestors were German farmers who pioneered Indiana in response to the 1862 Homestead act. There's a sprinkling of Irish (Dublin area) in her ancestors, too.
My husband's family is a 20th century immigrant story from Co. Armagh, Northern Ireland and the Trois Rivières region of Québec. The Irish line is likely Scots-Irish, but it is hard to trace earlier than the 1850s due to limitations in the Irish records. On the other hand, the French Canadian line, which was Roman Catholic and well documented by the Drouin collection, goes back to 16th century France.
Surnames I'm mainly interested in include:
Virginia --> Kentucky
(Mostly) German Catholics in Indiana
(Some) Irish Catholics in Indiana, Michigan and Canada
From Co. Armagh, N. Ireland to Connecticut and Astoria, NY
From Québec to Massachusetts and RI

Hi! Filled 3 of your photo requests and added associated pics to 6 other memorials of yours. Let me know if you have any questions on these. Yvonne seems to be duplicated or are there really 2?
|Cora Marie( Floyd) West||Turner|
I don't know a lot about Mary Eva Turner she was born abt 1896. I remember Cora Lee talking about her as her mother and that the Turner's had a temper. The ladies on my findagrave.com is Cora Lee Floyd and my mother Lorene Brogan Floyd. I have Mary Eva Turner listed in Morganfield, Union, Kentucky 1920 United States Federal Census.I assume she died abt: 1926. I can't find any thing that I believe is related to Mary as of yet.
Possible typo on name?

I was wondering if you have any more specifics for the Goneaus in St. Mary's Cemetery. This is a big place and the nationalities are all very mixed. There are sections named after various saints. Would you have any idea about the section?
added: Griffin, William 1949, Griffin, Alice Jean McFarlane 1980, Griffin, Howard 1985, Verner, Anna Belle 1945 (2 Pics), and Griffin, Jessie Sproat 1979. They were all in the same area.
