When I was a kid, my grandparents would take me with them to visit the cemeteries where relatives were buried. They would stand by a stone and talk about the person buried there. I wish I could remember those stories. This is a way to record stories I am now told. There is a story under every stone and cemeteries full of untold stories. I hope this will give people a chance to record a memory before it is forgotten, then lost. |
Recently, my husband got a Harley and we have combined our two interests. We ride the bike to various cemeteries that folks request photos from and have fun reading the old names and hunting for the requested gravesite. Sometimes just finding the cemetary is quite the challenge!
I do research on the following family lines: Lillpop, Askren, Green, Bell in Indiana. In Mississippi I follow the lines of Taylor, Ferguson, Scott and Holden.
"Do not, my Brothers and Sisters, think of the cemetery with tears, nor meditate upon the coffin and the shroud with gloomy thoughts. You only sojourn there for a little season, and to you it will not appear a moment; your body will sleep, and if men sleep all through a long night it only seems an hour to them, a very short moment. The sleeping time is forgotten, and to your sleeping body it will seem no time at all—while to your glorified soul it will not seem long because you will be so full of joy that a whole eternity of that joy would not be too long!" You have a photo of James Britton 1800 1879 tombstone and a memorial. He is Buried at Rose Hill Cemetery. I purchased the Cemeteries of Panola County book from the historical society and he is not there. Do you have a location of his grave so that I can try to have him added. If so; you could add that to his memorial. Thank you so much for all your hard work. LA
Hi. I visited Palestine Cemetery the other day while looking for an ancestor in nearby cemeteries. I took quite a few pictures because I hadn't checked before I went to see if they were on findagrave. It was a very sunny day and the light hit the headstones just right so that the pictures turned out incredibly detailed and legible. Would you mind if I post some on the memorials since they are so clear? I didn't want to do it without asking first. - Jill

I have provided some more names for this cemetery. The property owner kept private records and forwarded to me a typed sheet of paper with some details on them. There are many unmarked, or unreadable graves.

I would be honored to take these pictures. I live just down the road, so i will go after on Saturday or run by on Sunday. So sorry for your loss!
no sorry i dont use it, other than the free sections for my state etc., the subscription is a bit much for me at the moment. i do have a public tribalpages tree if you want to check it out, my email is email@example.com, ill send you an invite to the tree through email so you can review the kesner stuff, ive been slowly ading the Kintner info, its actually a section i just got into, i try to verify every name in it with some type of documentation which is how i ran across your memorials on find a grave. lots of loose leaves on this tree as i use it to gather info and im so unorganized its easier to keep it all in one place on line than try to keep it on paper lol. thanks so much for getting back in touch with me.

Hi, I noticed you had left a note on this memorial and was wondering if you happened to know anything about the Kesners that were intermarried with this family, I am tracing my Kesner line and seems Ida's grandfather Andrew is connected to one of my ancestors, Margaret Anna Kesner child of Christopher Kesner and Margaret Briles/Broyles, I am trying to locate anyone who might have additional information as this is not the mother listed for his children on his memorial. I have several intermarriages between the two families in my records through a couple of generations. Any pointers to lead me in the correct direction would be very helpful and much appreciated, this line is a bit of a mystery for us. my family has been trying to locate and document all the Kesner family grave sites in Indiana in addition to documenting other records for posterities sake and I just happened across this lovely memorial for your great grandmother while looking for a different Kintner. If you'd like, i can email you additional info that i have or post it on here, however you prefer to communicate it if it will help any. thanks you, Nora Carver.
