~Dear Ancestor~

Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone,
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist.
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.

And THIS is the creed I hope to live by:

If you could see your ancestors
All Standing in a row,
Would you be proud of them?
Or, don't you really know?

Strange discoveries are made
In climbing family trees
And some of them, you know,
Do not particularly please.

If you could see you ancestors
All standing in a row
There might be some of them
You wouldn't care to know.

But, there's another question
Which requires a different view---
If you could meet your ancestors
Would they be proud of you?

Mary Campbell Gideon Hudson
Thanks for posting the photograph of my great uncle Richard Shea and his wife Mollie Hudson and for giving us his middle name. My mother left a note saying that Bill Hudson died in an El Paso TB sanitorium.

DOD correction
I think there is a typo - the DOD shown on the gravestone, and on the death certificate, is 1938 (not 1930). this is for Jesse Claude Hughes, Warden Cemetery, Texas

Whitesell Cemetery
Hello. I think you have posted the wrong cemetery for Whitesell in Verona, to the Whitesell-Wilhoite cemetery in Bedford, co. near Shelbyville. Also the photo of the cemetery you took is posted to Whitesell-Wilhoite, instead of just Whitesell Cem, in Warren county. It is easy to change your memorials to reflect the correct one. Also the photo of Whitesell gate is posted to the Whitesell-Willhoite cem, which is incorrect cemetery for your nice photo. Thanks, Genealogist

Thank you Rita for taking photos of the headstones of those gone but not forgotten. This was my late husband's uncle who he never knew. After the death of my late husband, Wm R Maddox, I learned that he had a half-brother who is still living in Idaho. Bill never knew that he had a half-brother so now things have come full circle. Thanks to people like you providing those who never knew information we would never find elsewhere!
