I grew up in Carterville, Illinois surrounded by many family members. Every Memorial Day we took great care to place flowers on my relatives graves. When I was old enough to notice that my grandmother's siblings and parents, and great aunts & uncles were all in that same little area of the cemetery, I was hooked. I started doing genealogy back in the 70's focusing on my maternal roots.... the Johnsons, Carneys and Sheppards. Forty years later my maternal line on Ancestry.com has over 6,000 entries, and my paternal line has close to 3,000 (Collins, Hiller, Battson, Treat, Bayless, Deming).

Find A Grave is the next step. As I go "cemetery stomping" I'm recording graves & taking photos. This spring I will answer the call to photograph as many stones as I can locate here in New England, where I now reside.

Let me know if I can help you!

Mabel Carney Thaxton
Deb, I posted another photo of Mabel Carney Thaxton headstone. It is a bit clearer than the one posted. I will remove it if you want me too. I was in Little Flock and took extra photos to post.

Karen R
Nora Magee Taylor
Hi Deb
My name is Karen. My mother is Nora's grand daughter, Opal Taylor. Her father was Clyde Taylor. I have been researching Mom's family so I can let her know where she is from on her father's side. Do you know what Nora's mother's name is or any information on her father, Thomas J. Magee? I have searched everything I can think of to find her mother's name, and birth and death records on Thomas but have found nothing.
Clyde left Nebraska, his wife Rosa, my Mom and her sisters some time after 1940. I know he is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Do you have any information on him after he left Nebraska? I have a lot of research on the Taylor side and information on the Magees before Thomas, but I would really appreciate anything you can provide me on my Great-Great Grandparents. Thank you!

I transfered her memorial to you for changes, I would rather those I add be with family to maintain. If there are any others you are related to please send me a note through the "edit" tab so I have the right memorial.

RE: Gail King Photo!
I actually remember seeing Collins as a surname, if you post a request, I can go see if I can find it, it's 2 minutes down the road from me.
