~ Originally from Beaumont, TX, now living in Houston. Have been active in genealogy since 1982, learning from my mother who started in 1962. Photographing cemeteries has always been a hobby of mine and I have photographed graves in various states over the years. My 2 favorites are New Mexico for its old west feel and of course Glenwood Cemetery here in Houston.
My direct lines go back to 1649 Capt David Peebles.
I have 7 proven American Revolutionary War ancestors Collinsworth, Dover, 2-Hardin ancestors, Lawson, Perrin, Ratliff.
FIND A GRAVE It is true that the original intent of the Founder was to document famous graves/people. Genealogists and family researchers quickly saw the immense value this site had and the potential for proving/disproving info., adding images... etc. Those of us in this category made many suggestions as to improvements, one such being the ability to link family members. The guidelines do only go to 4 Generations vertically, however while some number crunchers stick to that, I personally do not care. (see the related paragraph below.) Now that Ancestry.com has taken over, perhaps we will find some more genealogy friendly options and guidelines in the near future.
NOTE ABOUT THE NEW EDIT OPTION: OMG! Please.. if you have 1 piece of info to correct or add, please use that option BUT, if you have several, just send the old way of putting ALL in info in ONE email ... 40 edits at one time for 3 people is RIDICULOUS!!!
NOTE ABOUT CORRECTIONS/SUGGESTIONS: Some people will send me info they want added. That is fine. If you are a Find A Grave volunteer/member and you have your email and your comment section closed (in other words, I have NO way to contact you if I have questions, etc) then your info will be taken under advisement only.
NOTE ABOUT TRANSFERS: If you wish to take over a memorial, please go to that memorial, click the "suggest a correction" tab and send the message that you would like to take it over. Unless it is my family, I will transfer it to you. Requesting this way makes it easier for me to have your ID number and the memorial number together.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS: You have my permission to use any photo I have taken and submitted, on your personal website, or Ancestry.com tree or a similar tree, just please credit "photo by Texas History Hunter". Please do not use my photos for monetary gain (i.e. inclusion in a history book, genealogy book, eBook, or CD, etc.) without my permission.
