Bio Photo ~~I Want To Thank Everyone Who Has Stopped By To Leave A Kind Note And Flower On My Memorials~~

So many people have said to me "don't you have better things to do with your time then drag up the past?" I tell all of you now, I don't.

My father, Duel Glen Going, was only 5 years old when he lost his father, Alonzo Stubblefield Going, to Typhoid. My grandmother, Pearl Cathern Holt Going, then took her 4 children and moved to Oklahoma and there was very little contact between her and the "Going" family. Therefore, I never knew this family and very little was ever spoken of them.

My feelings are, in each family, someone is called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again. To tell the family story and feel that somehow the "old ones" know and approve. To me, doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before me.
I feel I am the story teller of the "GOING" tribe. I have been called as if it were by my genes. Those who have gone before me cry out to me: "Tell our story." So, I'm trying. In finding them, I somehow find myself.

For me, it started on a beautiful November day in the 1980's. I stood in front of my Grandfather Alonzo Going's grave in the Masonic Cemetery, Pocahontas, Randolph County, Arkansas, and asked him, and all the other family gravestones around him, "Who were you? Where did you come from? Why didn't I get to know you?" I looked up into a cloudless sky of blue and vowed, at that very moment in time, I would not stop until those questions were answered.

RE: Burial of James Franklin Swann and infro of family.
Hi Shirely, There is a stone on James Franklin Swanns grave in Commerce. It may have just been put there by Hunt County. Is your grandmother Pearl Holts grandfather John D. Taylor by Rachel from his first wife? We have a Hall or Williams as possible last name for that wife. Do you have more inf.? I see the Holt being married to Rachel Taylor, by his first wife (Hall or Williams). At his point our Rachel the mother of Martha Johnson Flannery, was born to his third wife Nancy Roberts. This would make the grandmothers of your Holt line and my Flannery line half sisters. Do I have this correct? I sent you an email with more inf. on it because I did not know how to find your message here. I have no inf on the Holt line and a ? by Holt in my gen. I notice you have Martha Jane Flannery and we also thought that was correct, although our mother told us she thought it was Johnson. Martha died when mother was 3 so all she knew was second hand. We have some proof it was Johnson but right now I will have to remember what it is. I will let you know. Thanks for the flowers on my husbands grave. I will have to find how to do that. Thanks again and I will be adding some more pictures. I have added to Murray's Crumpton grave so you can see them. Freeda

Burial of James Franklin Swann and infro of family.
James Franklin Swann was my grandfather, and he is actually buried in the Rosemound cemetery in Commerce, Hunt County TX. This inf. is on the bottom of the hand painted stone which they all have been replaced with commercial style. He died at my mother house when she was expecting her second daug. There were eventually five of us girls born to the union. Martha, Maurine, Georgia, Freeda (myself) and Ann. We have the same picture that is posted here and wonder who has this copy. I am sure you would be close family. Freeda Brewer

RE: Marks Cem
I am familiar with the Looney name and have been in one of the Looney cemeteries near Walton, WV. I think I have also been through Looneyville, WV.

I think I got all of them. The Cem was grown up in weeds so I may have missed one. I intend to be back in that area in Oct if you have a request.

Shirley, I don't think the picture you have for Mama is correct. I have a lot of pictures and it doesn't look like anything I have ever seen of her. Mary

RE: Your Mom
Thank you so much for understanding Shirley. I learned today that my mom is at a point of not knowing what day it is. She asked if it was tomorrow or still today, I mean. She's not eating and she's refusing the hospital so it's just a matter of time and it seems to be coming pretty fast. Right now looking at graves just reminds me of how my mom too will have a rock with her name on it in a very short time and it's just too depressing to do right now. I tried today and wound up in tears. I'll work on fixing what I already have before doing more. Thank you for being patient with me. The past few months have been a nightmare.

RE: Your Mom
Thank you Shirley. We go through Attica every Sunday because we attend Oak Grove Baptist church. I will try to get the photo this Sunday but due to a death in my mom's family (we have been beaten down lately with bad news) I can't be sure we'll be there--I mean if he has his funeral or something but anyway I'll get it :)
