I grew up near Birmingham, AL, and now live in Kannapolis, NC with my wife. I've been researching my family lines since 2004, and would welcome any contact from distant relatives. |
Some of the families that I research are:
Aiken/Akins, Carruba, Crowder, Dier, Fulgham, Gafnea, Musso, Smeraglia, & Stokes (on my mom's side)
Bosserdet, Charles, Fendley, Gurley, Hansen, Hix/Hicks, Holt, Hory, Kuhre, Larsen, Taylor, Wade, & Whitmire (on my dad's side)
Baity, Barnhardt, Bostian, Earnhardt, Kiser/Kizer, Murph, Patterson, Ritchie, Sloop, Troutman, Walter (on my wife's side)

Howdy, Sadly the AIKEN or AKINS Mountain Cemetery as shown in the 2 Pickens Co., GA cemetery books is actually The AKINS Family Cemetery. It is on private property which means we have to get permission to visit it which is a good idea in any circumstance particularly in GA. It is in very bad condition as of 2004 so I imagine it's worse today.
I'll be busy this summer trying to also update my southernrootsandshoots website so stay tuned....
Ezekiel b. 1810 was definitely son of John AKINS, Sr. d. 1863 in Union Co., GA, That's proven by his Will. What is still uncertain is who John Sr.'s father was. I'm still looking for proof of how all the children of Ezekiel b. 1860 are his children and not someone else. No one seems to come forward with any evidence. We had an AKINS cousin over in Gainesville, GA who recently died, Martha EDGE, that had his father as John s/o Lewis AKINS d. 1791 Laurens Co., SC. All I know is that this John served with his brothers in the same company in the Rev. War. Do you have anything further on John s/o Lewis?

I'm the old geru, 411 AKINS lady with all the family info on the AKINS particularly John AKINS, Sr. left1830 Macon Co., NC and entered into Union Co., GA by 1840.
I ran the old Our Southern AKINS website which was published in the 90's at www.ancestraldesigns.com. You'll find our AKINS family info at my site: www.southernrootsandshoots.com
You should know that Lewis AKINS' wife was not Elizabeth MANN. That was proven years ago but unfortunately that error just keeps getting passed around like a bad penny. Every time I ask for proof, none seems to surface. But if you have some, please share.
My Mama was a direct descendant of Ezekiel AKINS b. 1810 and Melinda Jane CANTRELL. I think you are from that same family...aren't you?

I have transferred this memorial to you. I am sorry that it has taken me so long to respond but I have been sick for 5 weeks and just came home from the hospital.
I will gladly transfer any memorial to family.
Have a good Thanksgiving,
