My name is Kal Perry. |
You have permission to use any photographs from my postings. Please document "findagrave" as the source of your photo - which, by the way, is a good practice for any photograph posted on the internet. Why? a photograph has more value if it tells me how you came into its possession and (in the case of portraits) why you can identify the person. I've seen too many portraits on ancestry.com, where it says nothing about where the photograph came from: (1) if it came from your mother's photo album and she identified the person, I might want to use it myself. (2) w/o any sort of proof, how do I know you didn't grab it from a non-reliable source?
I am a strict believer in data accuracy. As a volunteer on findagrave, I take the responsibility seriously - as should everyone. We are "keepers of the data" - anything posted becomes history. Be very careful, and double-check your entry. I welcome any corrections to data I have entered.

Thank you so much for sending me the edits for Anton's memorial. I can't believe I messed the dates up like that. I had his obituary and birth and death records and still put the wrong dates on the memorial. I must have been tired when I did that one because there is no other excuse for it. Again, thank you for letting me know so that I could correct the errors, and thank you so very much for the photos you took. I really appreciate it.

Thank you very much, Kal, for the great pics of the markers for 8 people! I know the time and effort it takes to track some of these down and I appreciate it very much.

When it comes to questions of dates, names etc. Find A Grave's policy is, as far as I know, still to put it as it appears on the stone. So I just go with what the stone says and add any information about conflicting data in the bio. If nothing else, it cuts down on accidental duplicating. Unless I can find actual birth records for Andrew and his wife, I will never know for certain which dates are correct.
The same applies with names on stones. My mom's sister Marie is a perfect example of this. Aunt Marie's first husband died before she did, and later in life she married for a second time. When my aunt died her name was Marie Cartwright. It was the name under which her obituary appeared, her death record was filed etc. However, since both she and her second husband had been married for years to their first spouses and had all their children with those spouses, when they died, they each were buried with their first spouse.
So I have a memorial for my aunt that is under the name Marie Evans. It is not the name she carried when she died, but the name that appears on her headstone, and Find A Grave does say to record things as they appear on the stone. Since she is linked to both husbands and to her parents, I am sure that anyone who comes looking for a memorial for her will be able to find her easily enough.
