I started doing genealogy back in the early 1980's, researching the Jewett (my mothers' maiden name) Family in the Wright County, Minnesota area. That was back before the computer, when it was door to door, phone calls, or US mail. I gathered 18 notebooks full of information and now am slowly getting that information listed on Ancestry.com. |
I started back on my family research in February 2011 after retiring in January of that year.
Unfortunatly, most of the people I talked to back in the 1980's can now only be found on Find A Grave.
To any of you doing family research, I suggest you get to the oldest family members first and get as much information as you can before it is lost to time. Some of their stories (not always true) are interesting and more importantly, informative to your research.
Since starting back up this year, I have made some awesome discoveries thanks to the web. Lots of it I would have never found had it not been for the internet.
Find A Grave is an awesome site, people helping people. I can't say enough good things about it.
I live near the little town of Nimrod, Minnesota in Wadena County located in west central Minnesota. I used to travel the whole northeastern part of the state in my work and drove past many cemeteries, not ever knowing what I was missing out on. Maybe that's a good thing, I would have never got my work done!
To all of you who have helped me, I thank you sincerely and will do my best to help as many folks as I can in their research.
If you are interested in a transfer on any of the graves I have entered, I will gladly do a transfer as long as they aren't in my family line. It does not matter to me how distantly they are related to you, if they tie in to your lines somewhere down the road, I'll gladly transfer them.

You may use them on Ancestry.com, please be nice and give credit.
PLEASE USE EDIT TAB ON MEMORIAL FOR REQUESTING TRANSFERS!!!
I am working on several cemeteries trying to fill in as much information as possible and trying to make as many links as possible. I therefore am sending out a lot of correction requests. If you don't want, or don't know how to make the corrections, please just transfer the memorial to me with a note you want it back and I will make the corrections and additions and transfer it back to you.

Thanks Jim for the information. It was your sister-in-law by the name of minniokie. I just didn't look at the post very good. I guess, not only is she related to me through the Stephens family, maybe we also connect through our Cherokee ancestors. Will have to find out, and thank you for your help.
Have a good day. Regards, Milton Stephens

Jim, Do you go by this name??? I received a msg from minneokie about Peter Stephens being born in Pennsylvania. Later research has him being born in Germany, and baptized in Germany before he came to the Colony of Virginia before 1732. I noticed in all of your 23k plus memorials, you have only two with the name of Stephens and you have posted some great photo's on the memorials. I don't know if you ever have seen Dan V. Stephens's book, Stephens Family Genealogies, 1690-1938, published in 1940, but this is what it says about Thomas and Edna Griffin Stephens.
(1170) THOMAS BURTON STEPHENS, son of Andrew J. Stephens (118) and Ala Holford. Born January 14, 1878, in Denton County, Texas. Married January 25, 1918, Edna Griffin.
Muriel, b. 1920, Letha Betty b.1927, Robert Erie b. 1929.
The names and dates are somewhat changed, but I'm sure they are the same people you have listed. Are these your grandparents, by chance????
Andrew Jackson Stephens grandfather was Peter Stephens, Jr. and a brother to my 5th great grandfather, Lawrence Stephens. Looks like we are cousins from way back if Thomas Benton and Edna are your relatives. Anyway, have a nice day. Milton Stephens

No you are wrong they do not want to transfer memorials, at all. And they aren't even their relatives. So you don't know what you are talking about. And in the future you should mind your own business.

First off, I would like to thank you for all you are doing on Find A Grave, and commend you for your excellence and attention to detail.
I have added a grave photo for your aunt Dee and wanted to let you know that she is actually buried under the name of Nelson beside her 2nd husband, William Nelson. Dolores' memorial number is 64677245 .
Again, thank you.

Thank you for all of this information. Sarah is my great-great grandmother. I loved seeing her picture. May I use it for my family search?
Thanks for the obit, It gave me the impetus to add a bit more information to my gtrea great grandmother's memorial. It must have been a fat finger that entered 1920 instrad of 1910, as I have her death certificate.

At Jardin Montana, 1956, I lived next door to Cliff Dawn and family. Nice people. They had 2 sons living at Los Angeles, CA. Their oldest son was retarded and lived at home, helped his dad falling timber. The two girls were in grade school at Gardner, MT.
I graduated ParkRapids, MN 1956.
Cliff told me that they were from MN so I finally looked up their burials.
These were nice people who helped me more than once.
Thank you for caring for them.
