I love genealogy and old cemeteries! I am currently working on restoring an old, "abandoned" cemetery near Pleasant Hill in Pike county, Illinois with my father, Lonnie Robinson, and my good friend, Chris Harris. It is a shame to see the final resting places of the pioneers to this area covered in brush, briars and completely neglected. I need volunteers to help keep these cemeteries maintained!!! |
Many of the oldest gravestones have toppled or broken and I would like to get them standing proudly again. I'm learning the PROPER way through the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency cemetery preservation workshops. It's a lot of work, but it's definitely worth it.
I welcome any corrections, links, etc. to my memorials and I'm always willing to transfer memorials that aren't my kinfolk to an actual relative. I'm sure I've made many mistakes and I won't be offended if you point them out......:-)
If you appreciate seeing your ancestor's burial location, show your support by donating to that cemetery's maintenance fund. There are a few good folks who volunteer to keep the many old cemeteries in good shape by mowing, trimming trees, clearing brush, etc. and a donation toward their costs is a great way to show your support and appreciation! Without them, all the old cemeteries would disappear......(if you don't know where to send donations, please message me and I will find out for you)

Thanks... I'll keep an eye out for any update!
I'd love to send a donation to Baylis Cemetery to take care of it as your hard work is doing nearby. Could you find out the name of the committee and address for me. Thanks for weeding and clean-up efforts. What a thoughtful cause of volunteerism!
Thank you, Kathy, for taking a part of your day during this busy holiday season to investigate Baylis Cemetery for young Grace Iftner. I guess we still don't know whether the middle name was Eileen or Ellen, however, it feels great seeing something to memorialize this young child. It means a lot to me. Thank you.

Kathy I appreciate what you are doing for the site and the history of its occupants. My birth name was William Tilford Osterman, my grandfather and grandmother are buried at the site and I am currently trying to build a little family history for myself. Thank you for the information you have put up on this internet site... William and Margret had a son Donald Gene Osterman (my father), who in turn had two sons, William Tilford Osterman (me) and James Lamont Osterman (my little brother). My brother and I were adopted into the McGraw family back in the early seventies and changed our names, mine is now William Michael McGraw and my brothers is James Dale McGraw. Thank you once again for your valiant efforts to keep the histories of these folks alive.

I am so sorry. The point to this exercise was not to create MORE work for you.

I don't mean to be pushy just helpful. Believe it or not I am not related to any of these people but a Bradney married a Vaden and I am helping my Vaden friend find out about her ancestry. You have done all the hard work and made my job easy. Thank you.

This memorial is a duplicate of Eliza Hammerton Thompson. Would you mind deleting it? I appreciate you creating all these memorials at Bethel Cemetery....I took photos a few years ago of a bunch of the tombstones but never had the time to make the memorials....I am glad you are doing it!! Thank you so much, Kathy
Bethel Cemetery is done. Is there another cemetery that you would like me to work on next? I am guessing you have photographed many cemeteries in Pike that either haven't been entered yet or they are not completed. Let me know. I am always glad to help out any way I can.
