I am a retired Episcopal priest who has done genealogical work for her own family since 1990. I currently serve as a Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness volunteer for Cottonwood County. This is easy to do, as I live within a mile of the Courthouse and Historical Society. Or you can contact the Historical Society at cchs@windomnet.com. They charge $10. per hour plus copying for research. I am also willing to do photos for graves here in Cottonwood County though I only get outside of Windom on Tuesday afternoon. And gas is gettin' way pricey.
I will transfer any memorial I have created on request except those for my own ancestors or in my virtual cemeteries. Nor will I transfer to anyone who remains anonymous in their profile. IT is difficult to trust someone who is so concealed. But let's talk if you want one of them. My current practice, if I am going on a trip somewhere, is to see if I can add photos of the cemetery itself for the cemetery page. I know it helps me find the cemetery if I know what I'm looking for. Or else I look for photo requests en route and fulfill them. If it's a double stone, I will create a memorial for the other person named, if necessary. If there are graves with the same surname nearby, I will photograph and post them.
I am also nearly done doing whole small cemeteries in Cottonwood County, Minnesota. (The five of us working on that have finished all but the 3 city cemeteries. If I have been able to post a photo on the front page of a cemetery in CC you will find my status notes in the caption.) My daughter thinks it's a waste of time but I point out that it gets me out for a walk up and down "rows" in the cemetery. 2/2013 Working on Mountain Lake from photos & register and Lakeview from a list.
I GIVE EXPLICIT PERMISSION TO COPY AND USE ANY PHOTO I HAVE TAKEN AND POSTED ON FIND A GRAVE FOR YOUR OWN GENEALOGICAL PURPOSES. NO NEED TO ASK.
Considering all the recent zombie movies it's good to remember this "It is far better to be looking for dead people than to have dead people looking for you!" Enjoy! | |
