Ever since I was a small kid, I've always been interested in my ancestors. I'm sure I drove the older members of my family nuts by always asking who was married to whom and who their kids were.|
As an adult I've traced my lineage back four to seven generations and still enjoy working on filling in the blanks.
I also love to roam around in cemeteries and look for odd and different headstones. I have a scrapbook of photos of these stones that I started years ago and still add to it every chance I get.
My favorite is a stone that I found in a local cemetery in Bentonville, Arkansas... it's a man's headstone and carved by the monument company is this phrase, "I told you I was sick". I literally had to walk up to the stone and touch it to believe it was really there.
I first started using find-a-grave to look up famous people's gravestones, such as Bruce and Brandon Lee, those have to be two of my favorites, they are beautiful.
I finally, just in the last couple of weeks started working on adding information on the cemeteries where I have relatives buried. It's a great way to save and share information.
If you would like to either correct or add to a bio, or contribute any information regarding any memorial I have placed, please feel free to contact me. I welcome all information. Or I'll be more than happy to transfer any memorial page to friends or family. Please put "Find A Grave" in the subject field. Thank you!
If you have a minute please visit daddy and mommie's memorial pages. Joe W. Vaughn., Rhoda V. Vaughn.
and for my gramps, he was/is my special human. Will Vaughn.
...and for all of my FAG friends out there, I want to thank you for all the flowers left on my loved ones pages and all the sponsorships.
Only a member of this awesome family here on Find a Grave could know how much all of this is appreciated! :)
This is a link to some great pics of some of the military elite & medal of honor recipients buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
This link will take you to the official Arlington Cemetery site.
I also contribute to a site that focuses on just gravestone in Arkansas. There are so many older cemeteries and the stones are fast fading away. If you have pics of any stones from a cemetery in Arkansas feel free to enter the stone and or the cemetery. It's a relatively new site so everyone with Arkansas gravestones is welcome, the more the merrier! Here is the link.
Enjoy! Bev :)
I just added the dog that 'owned' me for a few blessed years, visit my beloved boy if you get a chance, Sandy Myers.
THE STONE SEEKER
Wandering among the stones I see
The stones so weathered and worn
‘Tis difficult to find the date
On which the babe was born
I stare at the stone and am struck with awe
At the life that I knew was gone
This was someone's child, a babe so sweet
With loved ones to carry on
So I take a photo for all to see
For the family that remains
An everlasting memory of
A child of God's domain
I brush the weeds back from the stone
And say a silent prayer
For the babes that had no chance to live
And for mothers everywhere
The dove calls out it's mourning song
Among the stones so still
Echoes of the woes, through time
The choirs of despair
The stone will someday perish
The flowers will be gone
But a photo now remains of this
Their memory lives on!
And so my friend, don't hesitate
To film the weathered stone
Those who live within your hearts
Are never truly gone

Beverly, I just wanted to tell you how much your notes that you have left my precious Max mean to me. I appreciate them so much. You are a most kind and gracious lady.
Thank you so much, Beverly and God Bless you!
|Algernon and Conan Together on the Rainbow Bridge||Hi Bev!|
That is really a coincidence that you got an email with the animated coffee cup. I adore it and so would Gina.
|Algernon and Conan Together on the Rainbow Bridge||Bev, thanks for the coffee for Gina.|
|Carole Whittemore||8 Yr Unsolved Murder - Blake Dickus age 10|
Thank you for stopping by to leave a token for my Grandson, Blake Dickus!
I appreciate it that you read the Memorial about Blake's very short lived life. Blake Dickus was my daughter's ONLY child and the brutal murder has devastated her. His death has taken a toll on our entire family - he had many devoted Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. This Double Homicide - (STEP-Mom) Chynna & Blake Dickus, is now 8 Years UNsolved! It doesn't seem possible that anything this horrific could go that long without being solved.
The deck of playing cards that you inquired about (I have pictured on Blake's Memorial) is one example of "getting the word out" to the public. The Dept. of Corrections gives these decks of cards to each prisoner (here in Indiana) that is locked up in jail for them to pass their time. It also starts them talking if they would know any details. Each card features an unsolved murder or missing person. We also have a REWARD for Information to solve the crime up to $25,000.00. Every little bit we can do to keep this crime in the public's eye helps - one day someone will do the right thing and make that important call!
Thank you for your Prayers for the crimes to be solved, as they are much needed and DO GET ANSWERED!
I hope you have a marvelous Christmas holiday season!
I enjoyed seeing the new pictures of Joe and Rhoda.
|A Southern Snow||From a Snow cousin|
On this Boxing Day - Dec. 26 - I found your name and contributions completely by chance (or fate)... I saw that you say you descend from Solomon SNOW from NC and TN. Well, so do I, so we must be cousins somewhere on the great World Wide Tree... My pedigree is Solomon's son Stephen Coe Snow and his son Houston Calvin Snow and his son Walter Carroll Snow and his son, my Dad, Walter A. Snow, Sr.
I saw you mentioned the Mayflower connection too - yes, we DO descend from a Mayflower passanger but it was not a Snow - man, rather his wife, Constance Hopkins Snow - who married Nicholas Snow, who arrived in Plymouth on the Anne in 1623. Want to see my Family tree ? It is open and free at www.wikitree.com - I am "Snow-2128" - The exact URL is: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Snow-2128
Are you a Wikitree member ? If not, it's free and easy to join. I love those two aspects of it and also that it is a cooperative Tree where we all work together to see how we relate on the World Wide Family Tree.
Right now I am with my wife's family in France - she is French - so must be brief. I will NOT have Internet for a week as we are up in the Alps and the chalet does not "do Internet" as they want a "rural atmosphere" - BUT I will see emails again about January 5 and so I hope to hear from you.
Must run now. Happy New Year 2015, dear cousin!
Chet B. Snow
