Bio and Links
Bio Photo Averil Hartley Mosher Merritt and I started in 2009 with Find A Grave and and are now adding information to our families in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma and other parts of the United States.

One of our desires is to add information to memorials that lack personal information and connect them to their family members.

Carlyle grew up on a farm 5 miles North of Maquoketa, Iowa. His family roots date back to New York City (Rye, New York) where his early family owned 40 acres on the coast leased to the government prior to the evolutionary war for a navel base. Later this family moved to eastern Iowa on farm land in 1836.

Carlyle's mother Viola Cooley Merritt's family dates back to Vermont (Cooley-Fisher). The Fisher family is descendant of Frances Billington who came with his parents on the Mayflower. Her grandfather was a railroad worker who came to Iowa as one of the first employees of the Rock Island railroad and was involved in driving the golden spike in Utah when joining of the east and western railroads. The Vermont family ties the Fisher families from that Colchester, VT area. It includes Rev. David Fisher (Last half of 1700's ), Henry Barney Fisher 1781-1815, Enos Van Ness Fisher (June 1814-Oct 1883.)

Averil was born and raised in the Salem, Iowa area and continues to be involved with Carlyle in the Merritt Computer business.

Averil's father's family name is Mosher, part of American history back to 1632 when family members came to this country on the ship "JANE". She grew up in a rebuilt log cabin located in Henry County Iowa built by her great grandfather Alonzo Mosher on the second oldest family farm in Iowa.

Averil's mother, Justine Hartley Mosher's family name is Hartley and dates back to Edward Hartley in 1682. We are just getting started with this family history and going over many pages of hand written pages by grandson of Norton D. Hartley, George Nathan Hartley, born April 12, 1844. Her grandfather Lindley Hartley, farmed the Pine Ridge Farm near Salem, Iowa until his death in 1917.

We are are adding information to our families that have their roots in mid west and the east coast. Those family names include Merritt, Irwin, Shoaff, Mosher, Watts, Barton, Hartley, Masden, Cooley and other related families.

We have been involved in our business in the computer industry located in Mason City, IA. We have compiled the Merritt and Mosher histories in computerized scrap book style along with the genealogical history, each book containing about 300 pages of B&W, tintype and color photos dating back to the 1800s.

Even though We do not have time to collect photos in our area we give credit to those that have done such a wonderful job in taking photos.

RE: Ted Shaw
You are very welcome. The person who was the major contributor for the cemeteries in my area passed away, herself, and I discovered nearly 100 requests left unfulfilled, so I'm just getting started. I'm glad I could add Ted's photo to Findagrave.com and was just out there taking those pictures a couple of hours ago. I am more than happy to help others remember....

RE: Thanks for the sponsorship for Ward Cooley
I loved that book that Parker showed us Christmas. My motto: Genealogy is not a hobby, it is an obsession! I am going to try to gather the gravestone photos for each of his family, and that memorial could not hold anymore than 5, so I sponsored it in hopes of getting a tombstone photo. I LOVE your work!!!!!!!

RE: Lyn Murray's online memorial
I was happy to do it. I took advantage of a break in the weather. Today we have sleet & rain but no snow.

Best Wishes,
Susan

I am the great Grandaughter of LoRee. Thank you so much for adding them. I wonder how did you ever get a picture from my wedding? Are we related somehow?

RE: Picture - Thelma /Beagle/ Davison
Evelyn is my mother, and now that you've called my attention to it, I apparently added Lillian Merritt's name to my database in or before 1998 but never looked into her family context beyond the link to Stan. (Stan's 1st wife was Corrine Schreiber; He has a sister named Marilyn Kaye Cornelius. I can't remember if I attended that wedding, though I was certainly around--high school-age--when it took place.)

RE: Picture - Thelma /Beagle/ Davison
Glad to help, especially with a photo I already had on file. I also gave your Allie Davison memorial a family photo today. (My maternal grandfather is one of her kids.)

I know Allie and Opal Davison's maiden names. I can send you "edit" requests to add them.

And I have been researching the Beagle family recently. Memorials exist for Thelma's siblings Neta, Edith and Loyal. However, I haven't found any for either of her parents and don't know where they are buried yet, so I can't link the siblings through them, the easy way. If you're interested in adding this info to your text bio, I could write that up and give you one-way links for them.
