I am retired and live in Central North Carolina. I have been doing family research for 40 years. The internet just makes it easier to look for dead relatives, but you still have to make sure the information is correct.
Some of my favorite cemeteries are Bonaventure in Savanah, Ga, Allegheny in Pittsburgh, Pa and Oakdale in Wilmington, NC. I love the old statues and the hidden meanings of different designs of headstones.

ADDENDUM: Photographs I have taken at burial locations may be used by others for any legitimate purpose. Hopefully, I would be given credit for the work. Personal photographs I have added to memorials that I created and maintain, remain in my control and are considered copyrighted materials. I hope that you will enjoy viewing the personal photographs I have posted.
Please visit my dear friend Pam who died much too soon.

Indeed. I am STILL "finding" graves. Over time, I've discovered something I once thought was kinda cool but now I find it a bit disturbing.
We have a very large cemetery locally that has two choices for burial. You can be cremated and put into a nitch in a crypt or buried in the ground with a flat brass or bronze plate with your information flat on the ground. Looking at the grounds you could hardly tell anyone was buried there at all except for the occasional flowers left by some.
I've tried finding people who have photo requests in this place. Even if I have the plot number, it is very difficult. If the grave is left untended for years, it slowly sinks into the ground and gets covered by dirt and lost to the common search.
I've grown to love the traditional cemetery that has stones that say, "I lived. I was here. Remember me. I am not lost."

|SleepingDog||Yancey Francis (again)|
Yancey's ex-wife, Gillie might be buried in Leemont Cemetery in Danville because two of her sons are buried there. But I wasn't sure so I just made her an unknown.
One of her sons death certificate has that his father was Basil LaPrade---but I couldn't find Basil anywhere either.
I love trying to find the people that are hard to find. I was thrilled when I found Yancey finally.
Now I need to find some of the other children--none of which were Yancey's as far as I know.
This might confuse you.
I've been looking for Yancey in Virginia, and seem to have found him here in NC where he was born.
It looks like he was married at least three times---once to Gillie Dickerson LaPrade (a widow). but since she outlived him, it looks like they divorced eventually.
(They did). He married Gillie in Danville on Oct. 13, 1906. Divorced on March 21, 1919 in Pittsylvania Co. Va. (They have a different marriage date on that record---so maybe they were married twice???).
He had married a Laura Williams on Jan. 17, 1897 in Pittsylvania Co. Va. She must have died since he was listed as a widower when he married Gillie.
But I'm pretty sure this is the same Yancey that Gillie had been married to.
Since he divorced Gillie, I don't know whether to send in a connection to her or not. But he used to be considered a step-father to her kids at one time. (She's entry number 150391318).

Correct. The graveyard is opposite the parking lot and is fenced in.
