Well if he's your fourth and my husbands fifth, I would think you two are related indirectly.

Not Impugning Your Research
Let me explain ...

I am helping my cousin try to get admitted to the Daughters of the American Revolution based on the relationship to Joseph Bennett Bradford. The DAR will allow her to join using this family line if she can prove that Bennett Benjamin Bradford is indeed the son of John Bennett Bradford. They are not willing to accept family stories or uncorroborated evidence.

I have been overly suspicious of many of the posters to the Bradford GenForum since they make claims that cannot be substantiated, i.e., by any sort of physical proof such as written correspondence, a family bible, photographs, etc. There are also outright errors in some of the information, for example, with Bennett himself. His birth date has been reported as January 1, 1821, his gravestone says January 1, 1822, but the 1850 census reports his age as 27, which (depending on when the census was taken) could mean that he was born in 1823. I tend to believe what is inscribed on his gravestone. If you look at some of the dates for Bennett's children, or of William Martin's children, they are just wrong.

My one main problem with Bennett being the son of John Bennett is the age his mother would have been (44 or 45) when he was born. That seems awful late for the 1820s, but I suppose it is a possibility.

My grandfather referred to his grandfather (Bennett B.) as "Judge", indicating that at some time in his life he may have served as a justice of the peace, either in Texas or in Tennessee. I would also like to find proof of his doing surveying with James Martin Bradford, and documents showing that have yet to be found.

Again, I am not impugning your research ... I'm just trying to help my cousin jump through the hoops at the DAR.

Harry Milton Bradford family
I have appended the text for an obituary for:
Bradford, Dr Harry Milton 14460453
b. Apr. 8, 1869 d. Nov. 1, 1962
It includes a photo from the newspaper which might be of some help for or interest to you.

I have also added in this findagrave record:
Bradford, Rev Alvin P 74800319
b. Mar. 24, 1875 d. Jun. 3, 1929

I am not related to any Bradfords; in working on Forest Park Cemetery in Greenville I come across names and relationships and Bradford has been one of those. Good wishes with your efforts.

re:
Find A Grave contributor R. Bradford has made a suggestion to you regarding your Find A Grave memorial for Harry Bradford.

Their suggestion:
-------------------------
Do you know who the parents of Harry Bradford were?
Respectfully,
Richard Bradford
-------------------------
Which Harry Bradford? I have the younger linked to the father. The father's (1859/69 - 1962) obituary does not name parents, but it does mention a brother, Ollie Bradford, of Greenville and a sister, Mrs. M. Crain, of Fort Worth. Email is much easier than this roundabout way to reply and converse.

Bennett B. Bradford
I've been looking for physical proof for years that Bennett is the son of John Bennett Bradford. Do you have such? All I have are family stories that Bennett accompanied his older brother James Martin Bradford doing surveying, and I have the fact that Bennett more than likely named my great-grandfather, William Martin, after his brother. And of course the name Bennett appearing so frequently. But I still have no real proof, like a family bible, for example. Any help you could give would be appreciated.

For your information, I have located the graves of George Leonidas Bradford and his wife. The cemetery of the town of Dawson, New Mexico, is the only thing left of the town after it was plowed to the ground by the coal mining company that essentially owned the town, sometime in the early 1950s. The grave is unmarked, but there is a map close to the cemetery that identifies the location of most of the people buried there. I live in Santa Fe, a fairly short drive from Dawson.

How are you related to Bennett B.? J.A.J. and my great-grandfather are both buried in Sweetwater. I'll be there for my 50th high school reunion, and will get his date of death so that you can add that to your information. I have pictures of both William Martin and J.A.J. if you would like copies. Do you know if there is a photo of either Bennett B. or Arena Ledbetter Bradford? The only information I have about her is that her father was likely a blacksmith or bellmaker in Cades Cove.

Thanks,
Eddie Bradford
