A little about me...
Glasgow High School graduate
Western Kentucky University:
Bachelor of Arts Degree
Masters - Folklore
I have always enjoyed oral history at an early age. Wish I had asked more questions now... In 1994 I was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer, went through surgery and chemo, I was given 3-6 years to live. So after I recovered from the treatments, in 1996 I decided to sell my home of 20 years and go on the road to research my family 1st-hand that were in my family files. I became a "fulltimeRVer" for six years; following the paths of my ancestors was a memorable experience and very humbling at times. I visited so many places I would never have visited otherwise... courthouses, libraries, cemeteries, meeting family and getting to actually stand on family land that my ancestors owned. Well, I am still here, I guess I still have ancestors to find and their stories to tell..... the oral history is out there, I just have to find the descendant that it was passed down to..

In addition to my family lines, I research Barren, Butler, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe and Warren Counties in KY. (South Central KY)

RE: Burton Cemetery
Well, I think the Shipley is farther up the hill than the tracks. You go toward 90 from Gene Shirley's on Dripping Springs Road, and cross the other crossing, and start up the hill. The farm is on the left. But the graveyard is between the farm and the tracks.

Burton Cemetery
I didn't know if you were the one who set up the memorial page for this cemetery, but I found out when Jr. Wheat photographed the stones in the Shipley graveyard that the Burton Cemetery is roughly 200 yards from it. I remember going to this cemetery in the 1990s, and when Jr. told me that they were that close I thought "Wow, we were that close to the Shipley graveyard and never noticed it!"

RE: Nifong Cemetery
Well, I've seen the indents, and Merlene Walker said there were eight altogether buried there, which is how many depressions there were the day I went with Oscar. The other four are Lester's first wife and their children, who all died in the 1918 flu epidemic. But I don't know their names. I guess I need to research. Ben's wife was Ellie Meek. She is buried up at New Salem, beside Lawrence Nifong, whom she took care of until death.

Nifong Cemetery
I was out by there this evening and I took a picture of the field where the Nifong Cemetery is. I posted it on the page, but I noticed there was some old logs and rocks where someone has turned the land over. They must have done that when they put up the cell phone tower a few years back. But I'm betting those suspicious looking rocks were once the markers. Oscar Meek's daughters still own the property, and she was aware the cemetery was there. They may have actually had someone come along and probe for the stones. Where they are laying on the ground is roughly where the graves are. I didn't cross the fence into the field. Noone was home at the house so I just pulled up to the gate beside the road and leaned on the fence to take the picture.

RE: Martin - Foster Cemetery
I can probably get out there to investigate before the end of this week. If I remember right (I'm a little short on my coffe intake too!) the last time I was out there was about 2000, and it was snake season. But I'm wanting to say that the cemetery is not inside the compound. It's just a rough and overgrown path to get to. The way it was cut out for the right-of-way, the cemetery is on a high embankment like a cliff. The answers I needed for Mr. Morgan at the time we were able to get by other means, except for the exact location of the burial of James Newton Morgan. He had wanted to get a tombstone, but when he found we had no way of determining exactly the location, he scrapped the idea. Mr. Morgan has since passed away, but I'm still curious. If I go within the next couple of weeks, I'd be less likely to run into snakes (BIG ones!!) Lol

RE: Martin - Foster Cemetery
That is one on my to do list, from way back. I corresponded with one of the descendants for many years. It was in really rough shape in the 1990s, and I never got back out to it. It is actually about three miles from my house. I'll see what I can do. Just hope it's not too disappointing what I find.

RE: Cash Phifer Cemetery
Aww, shucks! Thank you! I've also been going through my digital library over the weekend, and added some others randomly that I've taken over the years. I'll pick another cemetery in a week or so, and take some time to photo it as well.

Allen Cemetery
I am searching for a source for death dates of James Lewis and of Permelia Lewis, both buried in the Allen Cemetery. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Wayne Foster (47372726)
