Besides working on my own family tree I'm building trees here and on Ancestry.com to link the men, women and children buried at the state hospitals in Morganton and Goldsboro and at the Caswell Training Center in Kinston, NC and Letchworth Village in NY to their loved ones.|
I grew up in Greenville county, SC, first in the city of Greenville, then at the foot of Glassy Mountain in the "Dark Corner" where my maternal grandmother and her parents and grandparents were born. My mother, Anne Ballenger King McCuen, worked for decades as a meticulous land historian in upper SC and published several research texts. My father, William Garrison McCuen, MD worked for decades as an internist/general practitioner caring for many of the upstate SC residents in their homes, hospitals, the Veterans' clinic and his office.
Now I am in the foothills of NC, but enjoy maintaining family property near Glassy Mtn.
You hereby have my express permission to use ANY photo I have posted to Find a Grave for your own purposes - but I would appreciate a credit notation as the source should you repost it on your family tree, for this reflects the efforts made in preserving the record and may also provide a link to others interested in that person or cemetery.
I "inherited" a number of memorials posted by Buck Buchanan who introduced me to FAG and will happily transfer them to family. Just send a SAC stating your relationship and I'll be pleased to turn them over to your care.
As for those of you who assist me in making these memorials useful and respectful, "thanks" and please keep your helpful edits coming.
A lot of conflicts might be avoided among us if each of us will accept and act as if this is about those who've gone before and NOT about us.

Hello, Just an FYI, I received your request, not ignoring. I understand F to Davis. I have found myself with his ancestors, researching them, tangled, and well, ... Going back to the F, anything to help add? I can not justify an F either know, except the carving. Lost in time. The ancestry tree is public, see my FAGr profile. Greg

I believe that Alice R. Payne is the daughter of Thomas Hale Nail and Mary Janette Allred. She is listed as their eldest child in the 1880 Census, where they lived Pipers Gap, Carroll Co., Virginia.
Also, according to "Virginia, Select Marriages, 1785-1940," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org, Alice R. Nail married Martin S. Payne on 24 Dec 1893, in Carroll Co., Virginia.

Hello again. Would you please answer a question for me. As required by Find A Grave Rules, we can no longer scan obituaries to memorials. I now rewrite the obituaries in my own words, not verbatim and excluded any living persons, as required. Do you still want me to send obits this way. If you do not wish to enter such info, would you please let me know so I will not bother you anymore. According to Find A Grave Rules we can still scan death certificates, is it alright to add death certificates to your memorials? Thanks a regards.
Hi, I have found this grave of Bessie Kaplan, record 121651398 who is buried by "Letchworth Village New York State Institution for Mental Defectives" I would like to find out more about this burial, would love to see the photo of it. There is a flower request by an Anonymous...Whoever you are, please do respond to me. If you are a relative of Bessie, We are looking to reconnect with the living family. If I am at all correct, this is Bessie (Pessia) Kaplan born (1888 in Poland), mother of Aby I. Kaplan.Ex wife of Isidore Kaplan, the actor.... We are descendents of Isidore, he had one more daughter Rae, who was left in the orphanage in Novoziblov Ukraine. We are her children, we would love to find you and reconnect. This is what I think might have happend to this poor soul : I have found this very sad census record. Have a hunch this is very, very possibly her...Pessia arrived to US at the ate of 19 with a 32 year old husband. She was pregnant on the voyage from Odessa to NYC. Her husband took her son age 4 Aby I. Kaplan back to Europe with him. Divorsed her, and hid the child's documents away from her reach with the American Relief Association. Aby I. Kaplan , her son got stuck in China for many years. He was only able to return to the US at the age of 16, in 1924... I would have lost my mind, if this was my child... I can not find Pessia anywhere in any census. The only matching record shows her as an inmate in the mental institution in 1930 at the Letchworth Village New York State Institution for Mental Defectives....

I appreciate your information about Jeffersonia on the bio you wrote. Thank you.
I thought you might want to add that Jeffersonia seems to have had a son named Lynn Alonzo Montgomery who was born either 1884 or 1886, depending on the source. (I say "seems" because I can't find a death location or certificate) He was living with his grandmother Mary in 1900, and with his father & stepmother in 1910. In 1918 he was in TN working for DuPont, and after that, he moved around a lot, working in Tennessee, Winston-Salem, Gastonia, Akron, Ohio. He died in 1964 but all I can find so far is a Soc Sec death index file that says he was last living in Tennessee. He was divorced or widowed before 1940, so far I can't find a wife for sure. He went variously by Lynn and Alonzo, & LA Montgomery.

|rosie mcnaughton||Letchworth Village Cemetery,|
Yesterday I was watching a program on Netflix in which they were exploring Letchworth Village Asylum and talking to people who had worked there and some who had explored the ruins also. It was very interesting and not something I had seen before. It is a sad truth that these places which were supposed to offer sanctuary became the exact opposite for the inmates. I was curious and found your documentation of the graves on here. Feeling badly for those who were buried there, I went through and added a token to all the memorials which didn't have one. I'm glad you took all the time to add them here so that these poor people could be remembered.
Thank you for all your work here.
