Being a photo volunteer is great - I love helping people and helping them find the info they are looking for or, better yet, something they didn't expect to find!

Most of my memorials are not related. Please check the my virtual cemetery - those memorials are directly related (although some not "close"). Any memorial NOT in my virtual cemetery will gladly be transferred to a family member - I'm glad they've been "found"!

Any of my photos can be used in your family tree program as long as it is NOT used for profit. You are hereby granted permission to copy them without requesting any further permission from me. HOWEVER, please check the captions of the photos!!! A very special group of volunteers photographed all of Andrew County (PACT) - they have very generously allowed the use of their photographs on FAG. If the caption portion of the picture attributes it to PACT then please make sure you do the same if you copy it. (or visit their website to get a better copy!)

Also, as a reminder, photos are copyrighted by the person who took them. Please remember that just because I will freely share my photos does not mean that all contributors to FAG feel the same. Most will give permission but you must ASK first. Please do not equate my "blanket" permission as permission from all FAG contributors.

I do keep most of my photos, so if you would like me to e-mail them to you rather than lifting them off this site, I'd be happy to do so - just send me a link to the proper memorial or use the Suggest A Correction feature.

If you are going to use my photo, please be sure to CREDIT it to FINDAGRAVE.COM and please do not attempt to pass it off as your own work.

RE: Martha Ward Huston
Kelly, this seems to have slipped my mind--I have linked Martha Ward Huston to her parents. Can you link Sarepta as well?

I haven't heard from you in awhile. Hope all's well.

I just found the memorial for her, she is my great-grandmother. Would you transfer her to me please? I would greatly appreciate it.

RE: photo at Shaare Sholem
Dear Kelly,
Thank you so much for your researh and in depth reply! I apprecate your work so much. I originally was intrigued by this headstone because I have several family members and extended family buried at the Jewish cemeteries in St. Joe. An "unknown unknown" was especially intriguing.

I posted the photo to a Jewish genealogy FB page (Tracing the Tribe) and people jumped in with suggestions and how to proceed. No one could read it. I mentioned I would write to you but apparently someone jumped in and requested the photo before I even realized I had gotten it from Find A Grave.

I don't think the fellow you found was this person. Not a Jewish surname (and in those days it was pretty obvious). Also one person did say it was a female. She thought she also detected a given name, but it was not clear enough. Here's what she said:

"What I can decipher: "Here lies the modest, God-fearing woman," the abbreviation for "passed away" at the beginning of the second line," the Hebrew year of death, and the abbreviation for "May her soul be bound in the bond of life." But her name and her father's name are a bit too pixilated to see for certain."

And then she added....

"This might be a "rebus stone," a headstone where the carver had no Hebrew examples to work from and substituted one letter for another. The only way to clear this up is to have someone go out and take some closeups."

I will share your info with the interested people in the group. And, perhaps you might be able to take a close-up of the Hebrew? Maybe all together and then in closer "blocks"? I don't know if your camera has that capacity. If not, no worries! This is likely not a relative-- just a curiosity!

Thanks again, Kelly!

photo at Shaare Sholem
Hi Kelly,
There is a photo of gravestone "unknown unknown" taken at Shaare Sholem Cemetery in St. Joseph, MO. I am interested in this because I have numerous relatives buried in this cemetery. Unfortunately, the Hebrew is very hard to read in this particular photograph. (There is no English inscription). Do you have any ideas on how I might get a better photograph? I don't know if you are the in the St. Joe area or not, so thought I'd ask what you suggest before putting up a new request.
Thank you so much!

What a super sleuth you are! I didn't make the page but got it in a batch of transfers from Find A Grave, so I don't know what I have until someone sticks it under my nose. I believe you are absolutely right! Wife Jane has plot number right next to him, so the name was just not put in the title bars correctly. I've found the 3 daughters mentioned in the obit, so I'm a happy camper now. Thanks so much for your sharp eyes and great intuition!

Buried in Turner Cem. you took a couple of pics of her headstone the dates are readable can almost read the inscription this is a child. Is there any way you could look at it and perhaps see what it says? Would appreciate it. The memorial manager never puts any info on them.

Thanks Kelly

Martha Siekman Ebels (9711251)
Kelly, the marriage record you asked about can be found on Family Search by searching Johannes Ebels in Michigan. There are two results with images, one listing the spouse as Martha Tallman and one as Martha Tillman. Same record, but note that the Tallman image is much darker and easier to read. (Thank you for that, as I had saved the faint Tillman image!) If for any reason you can't find them, send me your email address in a "Suggest correction or addition" edit and I'll send you the good image. - Doug
